New Car.....

I am torn, the old one is sitting in the parking spot next to the new one and I have to say that the blue is still calling me.... :D :D There are things about the old one that I still prefer, bigger bolsters on the seats to keep you in place when being "Boy Racer" and I generally prefer the slightly harder lines of the old one. But I don't get a choice in it all. I don't actually own the vehicles they are an optional part of my salary and with the amount of time I spend behind the wheel for work it is nice to have something nicer than the average pool Camry. I pay a lease fee on the car but that allows me to also use it privatly not just for work. It also saves racking up lots of mundane KMs on my Landcruiser ;) This one is starting off as being mine for 3yrs/90,000KM but will propbably get extended to 4yrs/100,000 as I anticipate less travel now.

so you don't own the car. after paying all that money out you own nothing. please help me out because I just don't understand why you would lease a car. why not just buy it or keep using your blue car until it breaks down so bad it will not run any more.

Folks who lease like new cars and understand that is a regular fixed cost in their life. You don't deal with gas , tires or maintenance, even oil changes are covered. It is financially better to buy and trade in every three years. Everyone has different needs I suppose.

everyone that I know that has lease car will say you are wrong. my cousin did it and he had to buy tires and oil changes just like he would if he owned the car.

All told I pay LESS than the running costs of a vehicle each week to have this sitting in my drive way, I pay NOTHING up front and have NO residual to deal with at the end, each week this costs me about $75 out of pocket (it is more than that but the costs are deducted PRE-TAX - I pay over $0.40 on the dollar tax - so the actual out of pocket comes down). I pay nothing more, not a cent, fuel, tyres, maintenance, repairs, excess (deductable to you in the US :D) in the event of an at fault accident, they are all covered. If my working circumstances change and I don't drive enough to make it worth having this anymore or I get transferred to where I need a 4x4 I apply and return the vehicle to fleet, my costs then cease or I order a suitable vehicle to meet my needs. I can take the car on holidays, family and friends can drive it (need to notify HQ in writing for other than the spouse/children), if it gets totalled I just order a new one. At the end of the period (three or four years) I fill out a req and wait for the nice Holden dealer to arrive with the new one and hand the keys for this one to fleet who arrange the disposal.

Now remember the blue car (or this one) does not belong to me, I am not paying it off or any part of owning it, it is Govt property the best way to look at it is I am paying a fee to use it.

Its just like renting a house or an apartment. The overall major upkeep is taken care of by the owner. You pay to use it for a pre-determined period of time at a set cost.

Back when I was driving I never leased a car, and I never kept a car more than 3 years in my life anyway, mostly because i totaled them LMAO, but leasing would of been convenient if I wasnt racing them into swamps. But I thought Like you why spend money and have nothing to show... well for people who will always want a newer car, leasing is not a bad option.

Just like for people who are not sure where they will make their final home, people in temporary locations and similar, renting is a good option. Otherwise why pay someone else's mortgage?

That it is a bada$$ car :D

Sounds like a sweet deal to me. Nice car, I've never heard of a Holden before. But there are a lot of cars that the US automakers build that are only sold over seas. I remember hearing that the Aussies got the new Camaro's before they were sold here in the US under a different brand name. Is that correct?

Perfect example, two weeks ago an old guy backed into the front of the blue one, I get his details, come into work, fill out the required reports, hand the keys to fleet, they hand me the keys to a Turbo Diesel 4x4 (because I hate Camrys and that was the otehr option) and I drive that till a week later and I come in to find the blue one waiting for me, I swap keys with fleet and continue.

Andy, I don't think that I want to see THAT model any time soon!..........................................:D

They are wonderful cars Andy. I love the new one. I wish you many fun miles of motoring.

Here is mine. I had her for three fun years. I would have purchased another but unfortunately GM in South Africa stopped bringing in Holdens. I would have loved an HSV with a new LS9 engine!

Very nice! It looks like you could have a blast driving that

if what you are saying is true then the lease program has changed in a very big way from the time my cousin had it.
.... RT, I can't comment on the US or how a private lease vehicle program works here as this is written in as an option I can take as part of my salary package. I do know people with private leases and they don't pay for there fuel/tyres/servicing either, they do have to build up a certain amount of credits and such as they go to cover these things, fortunately I don't.
