Lol! Don't expect me to do deflection testing on them! Or batoning, even if they are built to take it. It just isn't what I expect from a knife. I might cut up the sternum on a deer, but never found the need to cut through the pelvis. Legbones are cut with hatchet of saw.
This morning as I backed my truck to the tool shed to leave, there were three deer making their way through the pasture about 100 yards away. I have a feeling my BK11 is going to get another tryout this weekend. That reminds me, I need to get the gambrel rigged and locate the buckets.
If the diferences in the steels are as subtile as you suggested, I might not notice the diference between the original Camillus and the newer KaBar Cro Van version. The original will do a large buck from start to finish without stopping to sharpen it. It likely would do a second before becoming really to dull to work well. In my 35-40 years of experience, any well tempered 1095 knife should be able to do this. But it is my habit to sharpen between deer regardless. I'll make it a point to do only one deer with each and compare edges before resharpening this time.
If... I get the new BK11 in time. This is my slow season for work. Hmmm... maybe I can catch a ride to that secret place you are going to be the day after Thanksgiving. You can sign my new knife!
