never a bad idear to plan ahead....Since the average age of Buck forum regulars is about 373 years old, I'm barely a fetus of a whippersnapper at a mere 59! Still, this topic is hitting home with me too. I'm starting to plan who gets what, gifting things now, and planning to sell a bunch of stuff (mostly not Bucks) soon.
never a bad idear to plan ahead....
I got friends who's parents die and leave them an entire house filled to the brim to sort though, while their grieving and not thinking straight. it's hard to watch and harder to even help them sort through it all......
no one can time their end, but everyone can start to have a plan to help their heirs deal with what's left after we are gone. after my grandfather died and left a house in another state with a lifetime of things in it to be sorted though and only a will, he decided he wouldnt do that to me and set it all up years ago with downsizing his belongings and trusts and such. I've already done the trust as well for my boy. Haven't gotten to downsizing yet but it's on my plate.
we are talking knife collections, but in general bigger financial items and keeping them out of probate is huge for who's left behind. trusts help dramatically. downsizing items is big too for grieving heirs. as for knife collections.....never a bad thing to pass along before our end here to those we want to have it and who want it.
Buck can be downright diabolical in coming up with offerings (BOTM, Stealth runs, Web Specials/Exclusives, Build-outs, etc.) that taxes and tempts even the strongest of wills, trying not to buy anything else or greatly curtail their buying habits... the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. But dang it the Custom shop now offers a 112 in Magancut..I told myself I would NOT order a 112 until I could get a drop point blade in any steel..
