Howdy all!

So I need to tap the vast experience here... I have been carrying an ESEE Avispa for a few years now... the best metal I have owned, in a folder, is 8cr13mov... The best I own is an ESEE 4...

I want to carry a better quality folder, but my budget is pretty tight... I'll say 100 is really stretching it, so realistically 60 - 75... I know I cannot get much with that, but that is where the knowledge base here comes in...

Bit of info on my characteristic preferences:

1) No real preference on maker, but would like to support US company... will buy foreign if I need to though...

2) Prefer blade length around 3" to 3.5"... But have been thinking about them 2.75" - 3" blades lately. Have never carried/used anything less than 3" before, unless you count the box cutter at work...

3)Usually like plain or satin blades... my Avispa has a blk coat and looks like crap now from its long use, though I hear DLC is pretty tough...

4)Blade style: Drop points, reverse tanto (like BM Rift), some sheepsfoot, some sax style (warncliff?)

5) No big preference on handle material, only have exp with micarta and G10 though...

Thx for reading this novella, and for any recommendations...

Off the top , Ontario RAT 1 ($40 , D2 steel), Spyderco Manix2 Lightweight ($90 BD1 steel) , Spyderco Tenacious ($43 , 8Cr13Mov) , Endura 4 ($77 ,VG-10).

Real Steel has some nice ones in your Budget, Ruike as well.

How about a Kershaw Knockout? Seems like it checks all your boxes and it's a nice, reliable carry knife with a great warranty behind it.

Also, coming from 8cr13mov, the 14c28n blade will be a big step up, but won't be vastly more difficult to sharpen, unlike a D2 or S30V.

What do you think of the Kershaw Blackout?

If you're interested in it send me an email. I bought one a couple weeks back for nostalgia and was then nostalgic... now it's just taking up space on my desk. Wonderful little knife, it just can't usurp the other knives in my carry rotation.

Otherwise I'd recommend the Kershaw Link. It's tough, well built, made in the USA and comes in well under your budget. If you can stretch upward in price a little bit, or watch the exchange for a second hand one, you can get it in m390.

Kershaw bareknuckle is another one you might want to check out. Made in the USA

Grab an Ontario Rat or a Spyderco Tenacious. Cheap and great knives.

BTW, my ESEE 4 and 6 are some of my favourite knives. These knives will outlast me.

The Link looks pretty slick and the price for M390 is outstanding... found a HOB version in blue & red that is catching... Damn it... is hard to make a decision...

This.

I was going to go with a Manix 2 or Mini Grip(that's my personal preference), but any of 91's choices would be solid.

The Manix 2 had really caught my eye also... most Spyderco seems kinda blah to me, but a few like the Manix and para 2 just grab me... only issue with Manix is the bd1, seen a ton of negative talk about that metal, but idk too much about all the metals out there... have been more of a firearm guy, but as of late, good blades have really taken over as a primary interest and I have lots to learn...

Kershaw link in the m390 or the HOB in s35v . I haven't recommended a Kershaw in a long time when people say under $100 my first recommendation goes with the Manix2 but the link is a great knife . The aluminum handles are holding up well not like the Benchmade 940 that gets scratches and ding easily . It feels a bit heavy but it a good heavy meaning it feel good in hand . Highly recommend it . If you are looking for something with a bigger blade the Rat1 really sweet knife for the price you can't go wrong .
