Hi,

Been home sick with a cold today and feeling pretty miserable. Until this showed up in the mail! A pretty little 2005 Butterbean in Antique Bone.

I think this actually the first Case knife I've ever owned. But I'm already looking at a Mini-Trapper and Peanut in CV. You guys have been a bad influence on me.

The curative properties of receiving a new knife are amazing. It'll cure what ails ya. Slipjoints (like your new Butterbean) are particularly therapeutic.

I've been wanting to try a baby Butterbean myself. It seems like a nice watch pocket knife.

Hi,

After carrying this one for a couple of hours, I'm a lot better.:) Foilist, I think a Butterbean is every bit the equal of the mighty Peanut. You should try one. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Funny, I was just eye'n one today at BassPro in Pocket Worn Red bone. I decided to wait until I could go to Shepard Hills and pick through several in person though.

Really nice scales on that knife!
Could you or somebody post a picture of a Peanut next to a Butterbean (the knives I mean!)

Regards, W

Gorgeous!

That is probably on the top of my list for my favorite slippie design ever. I just think it looks amazing. I especially like that enlongated naile nick in the blade.

Nice score and I hope you are feeling better.

I bought a Butter Bean in Shadow Bone simply because I liked the looks but is splitting pocket time now with my Peanut. I love the size and the old time look of the blades.

:cool: I agree...that old timey look is great.

I dont mean to hijack your thread dalee100 but I guess i have been wrong about the pattern names. I thought that pattern was a canoe:confused:

That Bolsterless Butterbean is a treat! Pity they don't make them at the moment.

It is a canoe. I think when Case came out with this small version they just called it the "baby butterbean".

Ahhh, Oh Joseph and Mary! (clutches chest.) Get me a priest, I'm having the big one!
:D

Hi,

I figured I'd get a bit of a rise out of a couple of you Peanut guys.:D But I didn't mean to tip you over Jackknife! Quick, take two fingers of Scotch, brand doesn't matter, as long as it's at least 15yrs old. Now breathe slowly. It will pass.

I've always called the bigger size a Canoe, and these little ones either a Mini-canoe or a Butterbean. And I've been pretty inter-changeable between the two.

Absintheur, I love that Butterbean! First bolster-less one I've ever seen. I like it! I too like them for the old time look and feel. And they aren't all that commonly seen "in the wild". I really like the larger bolsters. I sometimes wonder what a good engraver could do with such an expanse of shiny metal. It kind of surprises me that Case doesn't do some kind of roll engraving on them.

I do have to admit I love the looks of the shadow pattern. Gives it an older type of look, sort of like some of those old Sheffield knives s-k is posting now and then.

And its good 'merican Even Williams to jump start this child! At least three fingers too, why skimp!:D Just don't startle me like that, son.

I just fell for the barehead look on the Shadowbone, working on getting a complete set but some of the patterns are proving elusive, may take some time.

The shadow BB pattern is sweet looking but, IMO the bolster model functions quite a bit better if'n you are into hard use like some of us blue collard feller's. I have tried both.. No contest between the the two.

Here is one of a favorite..

If you google Case Shadow Bone you will find several places that have some of the patterns still. I bought my Butter Bean on e-bay and haven't seen anymore in that pattern. These were done for one year only I believe, 2001 if memory serves me right. As for use, mine is kept in my pocket when I carry it, it gets used when I need it and I can't see where it is being harmed. Unless you use it as a hammer I don't see how using it could harm it.
