So most around these parts know I have a bit of a sodbuster problem, as in there's not enough sosbusters out there:D So you can imagine my excitement when I found out that Case was releasing the tried and true Sodbuster Jr in a couple new handle combos this year. They are releasing the Sodbuster Jr in American Workman Blue in SS, Chestnut Jigged bone in CV(Woot) and Purple Jigged Bone in SS. The later arrived the other day and I had a chance to snap a few pics of it today. First my thoughts and observations on the knife.

Fit and finish are pretty spot on, the only thing I can critique is that the blade is not centered but it doesn't hit the liners so no harm no foul for me on that point. Walk and talk are good, easy pull that can be pinched open followed by a smooth open and solid lockup. Blade comes toothy sharp, won't shave hair but can cut and do everyday chores. The purple handles are very dark on the flats, so dark they look black to me. The only place you see the purple is on the edges around the liners. The purple is a good color and I think it's a subtle touch that doesn't come across as tacky, your mileage may vary but with the knife looking mostly black with purple highlights I wouldn't be ashamed to carry this purple knife. The shield is an Arrowhead shape with Case written on it. While I'm not a fan of shields on the sodbuster, at least it's better than that XX shotgun shield they had on the Orange Persimmon Bone handle version:D The knife is extremely thin and will disappear into your pocket, a great little carry knife that won't hog space in your pocket. You can see in the pics how much thinner this knife is than the standard Case Soddie. So to wrap it up, I'm happy with this knife and think it's a good addition to their lineup. For the $40 I paid it's a good value. Truth be told I'm really looking forward to the Chestnut Jogged Bone in CV, that one will be an added my EDC lineup!

Yep, I gotta have one. I'm also not a big fan of the shotgun shield but, got it anyway for the color.

Prior to seeing your pictures, I would've never imagined owning a purple knife; but I have to admit, that's a really handsome looking sodbuster. I might have to consider adding a new color to my collection.

Wow, purple in color (all ECU Pirate fan's love purple), nice and thin, and what a cool looking shield - great knife! OH

That's a looker, alright. Didn't realize these would be that much thinner, that's a definite draw. I do, however, wish it was a little more purple.

Nice write-up and great pics. I only have one Sodbuster and it's in yellow Jr in CV of course. I'm brand new to Sodbusters but I sure do like mine. It's a very sturdy and classic old warhorse.

I like that shield (generally not on Sodbusters though) and it would be good to see it on more CASE knives. Their usual shield is rather dull to my mind, this one not. Nice jigging on that example too, thanks for showing it. I'm interested in two CASE knives at the moment: The cv Chestnut Bone Sodbusta and the soon (but not soon enough!) to be released Teardrop.

They (the bone) are real nice....the purple a lot nicer then I thought originally. After toying with the idea of buying a new Soddy in bone, I kept wondering what exactly it was that was holding me back, and then it came to me, it's different then the plastic clad Soddy's in one very unique way, and that's the missing large bird's eye brass pivot. To me, that large pivot is the Soddy, and couldn't help wonder why Case would leave it out. Here's a ebony wood Case Soddy re-clad by a retired knifeologist that retains the pivot...

Here's a pic with the larger pivot added. Picture courtesy of the OP...

Very nice, thanks for sharing Trevytrev. Purple looks good, but really liking the Chestnut bone in CV. Thinness of both vs standard soddie would be an even better pocket carry. Does it feel as good in the hand as the yellow handles?

Thanks for the nice comments. Alnamvet68, that's a nice looking custom job! So nice I thought Case added another to the release schedule:D

Nerfin, I think the thin profile still feels great in the hand.

Do not be surprised if this particular knife becomes a Case Limited Edition 2014 Christmas knife, a Soddy that may very well sell out before it even hits the street, via pre-orders...and I am being real serious on this one.;)
