New catalog 2011

At first I was a little disappointed that they did not have leather handles ( Demo and Recon), however, it makes much more sense that they don't. Marine environments can be pretty tough on leather so the rubber makes sense. Plus they should be cheaper!

yeah, guess these remakes are aimed towards actual use rather than pretty conversational pieces.
having said that, the recon never looked better!
rare would be, a one time limited run for the recon with a shavin' sharp false edge...
with micarta handles.

The online pricing I have seen on the Spec-Elite auto 2 is about the same as I paid for my Pro-Tech TR3 X1, which was about 50% higher than my SOG TAC auto.

I'm leery though. My SOG TAC went back to SOG for poor lockup, and it actually came back worse. They should stop claiming "once open it locks up like a floor safe." It just flat out isn't so.

truth is folders are the domain of folding knife companies like spyderco, benchmade and kershaw.
fixed blades is what that made sog knives, SOG knives ever since day one of it's business operations.

I just downloaded the SOG catalog the other day and there are a few I'm interested in. The Forge looks like it actually had a "hammer forged" finish in the catalog, as opposed to what looks like an engraved pattern on their site. Also, the Force looks like a nice and stout 6 inch blade. I like the spear point, too.

Beyond those, I too was hoping there would be more along the lines of VG-10 arc lock folders. While I believe fixed blades really put SOG on the map, they've had some very nice folders, like the various Tomcats, that I'd love to own. I have a Night Vision and Vulcan, and I'd put those up against my Benchmade, Kershaw, and Emerson folders any day of the week. That being said, I think the arc lock folders are better than any other SOG folders.

I really like that Recon although it looks similar to the tech bowie with a different blade shape.

If I still like it when it's released I'll pick one up.

The Force fixed blade looks interesting. I hope it gets released in a plain edge version. If so , I would buy one.

I'd have been ok with the new revisions of the SCUBA/Demo and Recon if the handles were accurate instead of just Tech Bowie handles.

SEAL Team Elite and Tigershark Elite are still available just not pictured in the catalog. They are listed under models to the right of the description as Black TiNi version. I can see how that woudl be a little confusing

TE02-N - Black TiNi = Tigershark Elite
SE37-N - Black TiNi = SEAL Team Elite

I have been pushing for a straight edge version as well. Maybe we will see it later this year. I'll keep pushing for it.

The handles??

They've been the same for ages. Look at the Creed.

The SOG Bowie, Recon Bowie, and SCUBA/DEMO all had different handles. The 2011 models (tech models per se) all share a handle and that isn't the way it was (or should be IMHO).

Just so you don't have to work:

I LOVE the new versions of the Recon Bowie and Scuba Demo. I'm going to badger and hound whoever I have to in order to get my hands on both of those. They are too sick. I have had original versions of both (still have one of my Recon Bowies) and always wanted a more "all environment" version. This is a big jump in the right direction as far as I'm concerned. Coming from a more 'purpose and user built' mentality when it comes to knives, I think that this is definitely the way to go. I can't wait to test them out.

We are on a different wavelength. :D I meant the handles for the Tech Bowie, Creed, Recon Bowie 2.0 and the new SCUBA/Demo are the same.

But I like the new looks of the Recon Bowie and great to see new designs (that aren't blatant rip-offs like last years')..

I like that model as well (from the picture) and I agree on the plain edge version. Also, while AUS8 is a decent and tried steel (IMO), I would not mind to see it made from some even better steel (VG10?)...

Right on Chris ! Thanks for you're efforts. As much as some people like serrations, I truly think the majority of people don't. This is one knife that , at least , should be offered in both versions like the Seal Pup is.:)

BTW , I just got 2 Seal Pups and am totally impressed with this knife. I now see why this knife is so popular now that I've handled one.

Chris went over the Force with me in Vegas, kinda like it.
He & I are both rooting for a plain edge. :)
Otherwise, a solid knife. Looking forward to getting a chance to work with it. I'm a sucker for a good mid-sized fixed blade with a friendly grip.
