Hey guys,

I am in the market for a new pistol. I grew up with my father being a gun nut, so I understand reloading and performances of various rounds:p. Here is the question: do you guys think that a .357 sig will blow off a pad lock (I haven't tried yet), and do you think the compact glock (33) is the way to go for CCW?

For me, being able to shoot a lock off, isn't part of the criteria for a CC pistol. If you are worried about being able to breach locked doors, get a shotgun.

The issue of why you want to carry a firearm is important. Blowing padlocks off is not a good reason.

The Glock 33 is perfect.

Depending on how big you are.
And what you wear.
And how proficient you are with it.
And provided that you of legal age and you understand and abide by all state laws.
And you can afford one.
And you have no physical disabilities or limitations that would prevent you from safely handling said firearm.

Then again, if you go by that, anything from a Desert Eagle in .50AE to a .22 NAA Mini would also be perfect.

Much like the other thread, we need more details in order to be helpful.

As far as a padlock goes, how big is the lock and how is it constructed?

One of my favorite off-duty guns is a Sig 239 in .357. The 357 Sig is the best round out there for CCW. Why do you want to shoot off locks?

Thats an awful bold, and broad statement. While the 357 Mag has proven itself over the years, and the 357 SIG is similar in performance, I don't think I would call either the best. Heck, I carry 45's, and that round has more than proved itself over the years, but I still won't label it as the best.

YMMV

Glocks are good guns, you just have to find one thats comfortable for you. I had a glock but did not like it. Now I carry a Kimber as my main carry gun, and its nice to carry all day long with my IWB Milt Sparks EX holster. I also have a Sig P226 with a OWB holster that is easy to carry but not so nice while driving. Good luck

Remember also that the Sig P239 only has a 3.5 in barrel. You aren't going to get the velocities measured from "full sized" pistols. Less vel. means less muzzle energy generated. I find that shooting .357Sig rounds to have excessive flash, noise & recoil. Personally, not my choice in a small gun.

I believe that every shooter has to try & find out for him/herself on what is their own "best" pistol, and not pay so much attention to what others say. If the SHTF, your choice of pistol+ammo has to fit your hands so you can consistently hit the BG's COM.

I also prefer .45ACP, preferably in 185gr/200gr for an Officer-size M1911. 230gr for all others.

I carry both a Glock 30 and a Kimber Super Carry Ultra (not at the same time, but I alternate). I like both and they suit me well. I find that over time I have come to prefer the 45s. I also have a Sig 239 in 9 mil but for some reason I just don't like it to much. I would say the best thing is to try out as many options as you can prior to making your decision.

Good luck!

Absolutely

. If it isn't comfortable, and the person can't shoot it well, it's not a good choice... Doesn't matter what size of hole is in the barrel, if you can't hit anything with it.

Don't you have to be 21 to buy a handgun in most states?
