New CCW Pistol

It is indeed... I have speculated that the "caliber wars" have gone on since the very first firearms hit the battlefield back in the 1200s...
"Ha! My gonne throweth a larger ball than does thine!"
"Nay good sir, tis where one strikes the varlet that's important. Mine has the less recoil!"

At any rate.... I've always been a "bigger is better" fan, perhaps from reading all that Elmer Keith and Jeff Cooper stuff years ago.
In my 40+ years in police work, I've carried the .357 Magnum and the .40 S&W. Since I'm getting to retirement age, I'm considering a new pistol to replace my old 2" .38 "off duty" gun.
Dead reliable little piece, but only 5 shots and I've always thought of the .38 out of a 2" tube to be a bit on the marginal side.
There are so many compact auto pistols available now... Most well-reviewed. The contemporary 9mm is pretty effective by most accounts, though I never was a fan.
Still, a compact pistol that you will carry gets points over a bigger gun that you won't....

I like Glock, been carrying one (M23) for almost 20 years and they are superbly reliable combat weapons. The compact model in .40 is a potent package.
However, the little Ruger LC9 is pretty cute.... There are more.

Nice reviews, no-nonsense approach.

I'm already a subscriber, and thanks for your kind words. My father was the Sheriff of his county at one time, but before then, we spent many of weekends shooting out in the hills. We also cranked out tons of rounds through 2 Dillon progressive reloading presses.

Yeah, I like .38 some of my best shots were from a .357 classic hunter. I loved that the slide wasn't fluted.

Take care.

The only thing that will reliably take a lock out is a shotgun.

To CCW pieces, I'm fond of the glock 19 and the s&w 642.

I have carried many different setups and have gone to a S&W .38. I like revolvers for carry. Some people don't like only having 5 rounds, but it's what you do with them that counts. For an autoloader I would go Sig in whatever flavor ypu like. The P239 is nice. I've had my eye on a P238 for some time now. CZ also makes fine pistols. Glocks are ok, if you're into that sort of thing.

Absolutely

. If it isn't comfortable, and the person can't shoot it well, it's not a good choice... Doesn't matter what size of hole is in the barrel, if you can't hit anything with it.

Yes yes!

If you can't hit your target, the firearm is useless.

Find what fits your hand & what you can consistently hit COM at 7-10 yards for a personal defense weapon. Hitting BG's CNS consistently & when under stress is much more important than caliber or what kind of Magic Bullet is currently in vogue.

I have a kel tec pf9 and a Smith and Wesson model 36, both of which I love. However if I where to buy a new handgun for concealed carry, I would go with a Springfield Armory XDS Single Stack .45ACP Micro! I have had my eye on one for a while now, but I have yet to handle one.
