I have this one & another coming in from Phillip Dobson.
Mr.Dobson suggested this spectacular wood to me in an earlier thread, about a different knife. It's called Thuya Burl,or just Thuya.
Here's bit of info on Thuya from Mr.Dobson:

Thuya burl is a strange wood. It's hard and extremely oily; it's also somewhat brittle. It was tricky to find a piece big enough for the Chinook that wasn't full of cracks that require sealing. The oily-ness is both a good and bad thing. The bad thing is that it clogs sandpaper and belts almost instantly. It's annoying. The good things are that it takes a great polish, (like it's pre-oiled), and it smells great. In fact, in ancient Greece, thuya was used as incense for religious ceremonies. The word thuya is derived from the Greek word for sacrifice. It's also the national tree of Malta. It's funny as they only have about a dozen of the trees on the entire island.
