Is it just me, or is that a big crack in the wood going forward from the front screw hole?

I see what you're talking about,but I couldn't tell you first hand,as it's not in my possesion yet.

Maybe Phillip can let us know....even if it is,I'm sure it's sealed & at least as strong as the wood.

Absolutely right! Black clips don't stand out as much from a distance.

Yeah, there is a crack there. It shows up much better in the photos than it does under most lighting. The crack either formed when the wood was growing, or when it was dried. It wasn't caused by the pivot hole. In any case, it has been sealed so it won't propagate. I don't like to hide cracks and voids that are natural to the wood. I just seal them so that there aren't any structural weaknesses.
