...Hmm...Really should find a new scapegoat to blame my knife habits on, then. Jokes (which I really should add more 'JKs' to, sorry for the probably morbid confusion) aside, this thing really has gotten me interested in Karambits, and I'm giving it a try against my usual stingy habits and judgment. The blade shape sold it, I need that Wharnie tip for detail, but that curve actually may have some uses. I did pass that 'she's trouble' bit to the head of the household. She agrees, and still doesn't get my fascination with 'Hawaiian' knives.

I don't care for kiridashi's for there limited blade- edge; Chad just adds edge to a common kiri allthough it might be a difficult shape resharpening.
I think Chad is one of the few knifedesigners who dares make a stand and we should give him credit for just that and boker for giving him a base!!!!!

Maarten,
No, I don't know him, but I know of him.
I have been doing silat(of various lineages) for about 12 years, and FMA for close to that amount of time.

And you are right, he is very knowledgable.

I wonder if the RNR will be titanium coated?
There also was not mentioned on boker.de if the kerambit will have duel thumbstuds.(ambidextrous)?

So Tobias/Terry/ Chad could you fill in the gaps? lol
;)

Don't know about the Ti coating, but according to the other pic of the k'bit
I have seen shows dual thumbstud.

interesting design that k-bit...any other blade designs for it upcoming? i'm wondering how it'll feel with that 'biner clip there. what is the diameter of the ring? i wish there was a brake on it...but for the price i may just get it anyway and mod the handle scale.

Specs translated from boker.de:

RNR (fixed blade):

weight 71 gram
blade thickness 3 mm
bladelength 6,5 cm
overall length 15,3 cm
440C bladesteel

An interesting mix of modern & classic produces CLB's newest fixed blade. Chad combines the classic straight diagonal edge of a japanese kiridashi with a curved/bellied edge end and so hightens its utility purpose.
Let's RockNRoll! Shipped with kydexsheath and break-ball chain. Tek-lok compatable.

Kerambit;

141 grams
overall length 19,6 cm (opened)
bladelength 7,4 cm
framelock
g10 scale
440C bladesteel
Titanium coated blade and steelscale/lockside on handle
spring tensioned karabiner on ring (butt)

The framelock front g10 scale offers a remarkable handfeel. The blade with its combined Tanto recurve shape offers excellent cutting ability.

Bokers MRSP in euro's (probably less with dealers and in US);

RNR 59.95 euro
Kerambit 39.95 euro

Alohallo Maarten,

Thanks SO MUCH for the translation...I had NO idea what was being said about these two!:o

Hey, the RNR will be a breeze to resharpen...think Cricket.

Um, only Tobias can fill in the gaps...I hope.

God bless and thanks again!

The last time the new ones came out, I was one of the few drooling over the Edit while the Direkt can't be carried in Illinois. This time around, even with much-wanted Kydex, the RNR is just too rock and roll for me. A wild design, the handles add to the flair of the blade for a custom look, but my Edit blends in better for concealed carry. If I was in a nonexistent knife-loving environment and didn't have a dress code to follow, I'd be necking a RNR for all to see.

All these years, I've never gotten Karambits. Ever. Never saw a thing in them design wise or blade wise, just seemed to be an over-exotic balisong-esque gimmick. I don't even like Hawkbills, preferring Wharncliffe with rare exceptions. No utility, quality comes at to high a price, and the design in general just seems flea market.
...So...eh...When does it ship? It's for my girlfriend. She...eh...likes the combo-blade, the handle, the more compact low-frills design, the carabiner loop, and the ti-coating like on the edit. Actually she LOVES the blade shape, so...yeah. We share a debit card despite her making twice my income, and my name's on it for legal reasons, if that raises any questions. And if it comes in gray, she wants one in each shade. Did I mention she loves the Wharnie tip on it?

...Stop showcasing how bad a liar I am, take the money, and leave the thing in a plain paper bag.

Alright...
Thanks for freaking me out Alex...

God bless and good to see you!

Mahallo Maarten,

Thanks for your kind words. YES...I do have Kira designs, but most Kira's look the same, just a different handle, handle scales, blade angle, etc...

I am grateful to Boker for taking a "chance" on this one, I sorta bastardized a Kira that's why by adding a very round belly to it. See, the RNR can push cut to a degree like a Kira can, BUT it has a very rounded belly for rocking cuts...something a Kira cannot do. Mock cutting with my RNR Protoplastic proved it effective for a great many "things".

Not only am I happy about Boker making this one, but I am stoked they did the "Camo-Cut outs" in the handle!!!

This will be a very fun knife to play...um, I mean...use.;)

God bless and take care!

PS: Credit goes to knife folks like you Maarten...without you all, there would be no me in the industry. So mahalo sir.:)

I like the Kbit a lot...the other one is cool but a little beyond my comprehension as to the utility of that particular blade shape...

The RNR is a very interesting design to say the least...I like it a lot...Chad knows what he is doing when he designs...he has designed some pretty terrific SD knives, while still retaining great utility purpose and this rounded belly dashi is going to be quite the slicer for you SD fans...One look at it and I knew what I was looking at....Awesome...can't wait to get one of these bad boys....Doc:D

Aloha SSifu,

Yeah, well, you DO have an advantage over the rest of us being that you are immortal and all!;)

The "bastardized Kira" that is now known as the RNR proved very useful when I was mock cutting with the protoplastic I built. I always "hand test" my protoplastics through various co-workers and see how they hold and handle them.

They had "fun" with the RNR, and both knife user and non-knife user appeared to be able to "use" it through mock cutting without any funky comments. True, the RNR is a strange design...

BUT, it is functional. Trust me.;)

God bless and um, ETA on this one Tobias please?
