New Cold Steel Atlas lock innovation for 2022! Stronger than the Tri-Ad lock???

wonder if Mike Wallace is still with cold steel and if he had any input in anything new for 2022.....

Hey jbmonkey,

I am no longer with Cold Steel. My position was terminated Nov 30th 2021. GSM acquired a new company with a better equipped machine shop. It was no longer cost effective to keep me on working remotely. So the old R&D facility that Andrew Demko and I worked at for the last fifteen years is no more.

As for the new lock, I made all the iterations in the evolution of it. The designs for the new folders were not mine but GSMs design team. The lock was not designed by myself or Demko.

I had zero input as far as what projects moved forward for production.

I’m certainly not done in the knife industry and am proud of the designs that are / were produced by Cold Steel. Demko and I speak often and he continues to be a great friend and mentor.
I am new to this forum but I would like to thank you Sir for your past designs. I have a few of them here in Argentina and the ones I will keep as a collector I will take good care of them and certainly pass them to future generations. I´m looking forward to see more designs from you in the future.

Not crazy about the overall look of the knife, but yeah looks like a variation on the shark lock...for those that don't like the shark "fin". Liked how he said it would be available in 2.5", 3", and 3.5" models...wish they did that with more of their offerings.

I realize sense of taste is a personal thing, but for me all cold steel folders are ugly as sin.

ok but that sounds very trollish given how large their line-up is.

No troll intended. Just havent ever seen good lines on any of their folders.

They do have a few aesthetic fixed blades though which I like a lot.

Most of the old CS folders were not designed for beauty as much as function .

In hard use / martial applications most of the handles make sense .

Not everyone needs or cares about such uses .

Plenty of pretty folders on the market now , made to have their photo taken on a special hanky .

It is trolling, come on, whether you meant it or not. The thread didn't ask for an opinion on the looks of CS Folders. This is a Forum for CS fans obviously, I see the same thing on many other forums, they are usually trying to stir the pot. Sure there are things to dislike but a blanket I don't like their folders is ridiculous here. Kinda like when somebody says"nothing personal" it usually is.

With perhaps the exception of the Code 4, which I see as a strong and (very!) beautiful gentleman's folder...
I actually consider many of the old school CS folders as beautiful , in a functional way .

I avoided the Code 4 for years , because all metal smooth handles are usually too slippery .

The Code 4 surprised me in how secure it felt , even with the relatively smooth metal handles .:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I'm not an Instagram chap myself though I don't knock it, and self defense is definitely a consideration of any folder I carry on a daily basis.

I'm definitely a ''beauty is in the function'' type of fellow. That said, a lot of the cs folders I see are large, heavy, and not very practical looking from an edc perspective. While I appreciate what they are doing with locking mechanisms, at some point I might as well carry a small fixed blade in comparison.

Wasnt trying to rile anyone up, was just replying to jlauffer jlauffer on the aesthetics. I'm a cold steel fan, just not so much their folders.

It's too bad the Verdict doesn't have the new lock...then I might try it. Don't like the dip in the blade, and don't like the reverse angle on the front of the scales.

I like many CS folders... I mentioned specifically the Code 4 because it is (IMO) one of the most elegant folders ever made. 🥰

It's also smaller than the Recon 1, so (for legal reasons) I'm using it daily as EDC.

It hasn't slipped from my hand so far. :)
