Anyone here have any actual hands-on experience with the new CS Drop Forged Bowie? It looks like it might have some potential? 9.5" blade, 14" OAL. Blade profile sorta looks like the CS Trail Master. I think the list is $139.99? Maybe see it for $99.99-$109.99 in a year or so? I rather like the "unitary" design and the faux staghorn scales.

Sure would be interesting to hear some first-hand feedback (and not just some whining about it not being made from extra virgin Unobtainium 0427HiX-K2L/CXb5-XSai, or the fact it's from CS which was "ruined" by GMSP.) Thanks.

It sure seems that if you had access to the required manufacturing processes, if it didn't get too expensive, and you had the sales volume to justify the tooling, that drop-forging a "unitary" design would yield the finest knives? I say this as a mechanical engineer, not a knife expert.

I know quite a few people who picked up the older Bowie (the gold colored one with no handle inserts) and used it as truck knife. I thought about getting one but ended up with the CS SRK in SK5 (great knife btw for $42ish).

If I had to buy one, I'd pick the 8" CS drop forged Bowie over the 9.5" one. 8" is enough (o_O) and I greatly prefer the handle insets of the 8" bowie (rubberized and feels great in hand) and the straighter handle. Although the 9.5" profile is more inline with a traditional bowie (there should be a curve to the handle right?), I prefer the overall shape of the 8" one. Also, I admit I don't like the look of the faux stag handle inserts.

YMMV.

If you are looking for a big chopper to beat one, it should serve you well.

Appears they're already being sold online for $79.95... I couldn't tell if that included free shipping. Definitely free shipping at $89.99 through another supplier.

I got this one for my son and he’s used it on a few backpacking trips. He likes it a lot and it holds an edge very, very well. Also feels pretty good in hand, and those “stag” inserts should improve the grip (although I would personally have to change them out for something else - not a fan of plastic stag).
Also, for some reason, watching Stick Man stabbing that pig was more disturbing than all the other weird things I’ve seen Lynn and the boys do to carcasses...

My experience with CS so far is this:
If you do get it and you want to actually use it - get an after market sheath or go custom...

Their sheaths are just P.O.S. from my experience...

I shelled out around 100€ for a CPM-3V Mini Pendleton and it was the dullest out of the box knife I ever seen.
I sharpen it to a razor...
I get at work, pull it out and - butter knife... there was some movement in the sheath as I carried it and that was enough to dull it.

Get a sheath that isn't full of glass...
