New Collection Additions... Fixed and Folders..

Good Lord,

That is a fine collection and more.... A class I can only dream of, congrats of some of the finest quality I have seen in my days. Sweet does not describe those cherry's :friendly_wink:

I'm a collector too, and have a stable of dissimilar knives. There is something real about having a 'focus', and there is also something just as satisfying about owning diverse pieces.

The lasso around these is quality.

What great images, too! Rich is very humble, but he's WAY above average on his clarity and lighting.
Good thread. :) Rich, thanks for the opportunity and kind words.

Coop,

You ARE a collector, but your collection is one of diverse "imagery" and genres".

As a collector, you are demonstrating numerous "aesthetics" and ideas...

1. Your Hill Pearce sub-collection is based around the work of one maker.
2. Your collection of ivory micarta folders with red liner material....usually tactical knives and with racy lines and imposing presence.
3. Your art knives.....I'm not sure WHAT is says, but it has something to say.

Don't know what else there is.:D

It's hard to get a bead on a collector who doesn't put all of his preferences and knives out there.....a Jon Brand, Peter Gill, or Kevin Jones have an easier-to-understand aesthetic and preference we KNOW, because...most, if not all of the work they own is documented and easy to review...

A collector like yourself, Murray White or Rich Slaughter are much harder to understand from a "goal" or "focus" perspective because all are quite diverse in taste and there isn't really a clearinghouse to easily review what you all own....it comes out in dribs and drabs.....and that's super cool as well.

As far as myself, it's easier to make a list of what I DON't like than it is to make a list of what is liked, because "Knives" is far too diverse a description to us to stand on it's own....and when a piece is put up from my collection on BFC...it is for the benefit of all, as I really dislike posting photos of what I own....dislike them being on the internet at all, but what can you do?

Rich and I have been in correspondence for years. Have never met him that I know of....but we have grown closer over that time, revealing poignant details of our lives, and just shooting the breeze in general. Holger Enge and I had a similar relationship, as did Peter Gill and I until we met.

We recently did a knife exchange and I think we are both very happy with what the other sent.....if Rich wishes to share it, fine by me....if not, also fine. I look forward to the day I meet Rich Slaughter and have a chance to sit down and talk. Hope it is sooner rather than later!

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson
