Pretty new to the knife scene and pondering my next move. Here's where I'm at now (in order of most to least favorite):

- Spyderco Dragonfly 2
- ZT 0566
- Spyderco Delica 4 FFG
- Spyderco ATS-55 Police with SS handle (early-mid 90's hand me down from dad)
- Gerber Applegate-Fairbairn First Production run (Don't know a lot about it, but it's kinda cool)
- Gerber AR 3.00 (was a giveaway at a company function - shrug)

I'm probably going to look into getting rid of the Delica via trade or sale because I feel like it has some overlap in usefulness with the ZT which is newer and a good change of pace from when I carry the Dragonfly.

Anyway, I'm looking for suggestions on where to go next with my collection. I'm really intrigued by some of the different blade styles I see when wandering around, particularly the tanto, reverse tanto and Wharncliffe. Given the current population of my collection, what are some knives and/or manufacturers you think I should look at? I'd really like to keep it under $200 but I've been known to splurge.

I'm a big fan of wharncliffe blades. If you're looking just to try one out and don't want to spend a lot of cash, I'd recommend picking up a Spyderco Kiwi 3. It's made overseas and can be had for less than $30, but the design is excellent and it makes for a nice companion to a larger carry knife, imo. Whichever knife you ultimately decide on, perhaps you might consider adding a Kiwi 3 to your order...

Good luck, OP! :)

Technically, you have all the knives you need, if that's the case. Also, a Delica and ZT 0566 don't really have much of an overlap in purpose or design characteristics, so why wouldn't you keep them both? The Delica makes a good slacks knife, and the 0566 is a tank.

If I'm wearing slacks, I usually just go very lightweight with the Dragonfly. If my dress/activities can accommodate a bigger knife, I find myself choosing the ZT over the Delica pretty consistently. I get that they're different designs, but given that my collection is still in it's infancy and not yet very diverse, I'd like to take the money I have tied up in the Delica and put it towards something new.

I really love my Brous Bionic, wharnie style blade, flipper, D2. Spyderco Yojimbo 2 is nice I hear, especially if you like the compression lock. My ZT0801 will be here today, I've heard nothing but good things about it, maybe something to look into. Spyderco is my favorite production knife company, I have quite a few:

Dragonfly ZDP-189
Caly3 CF/ZDP
Forum Native 5 s110v
Manix 2 sprint CTS-XHP Foliage Green
PM2 Digicamo/Satin
Schempp Rock
Gayle Bradley

The Gayle Bradley is really a great knife $150 ish, CPM M4 steel.

LionSteel/Dendra/DPX make some cool knives you can find on the secondary market under $200

Good luck with the addiction.

Well hey, absolutely. I understand completely. Many of us here sell knives in order to fund others.

The blur is a nice knife, when I had one I liked it better than the leek. IMO its a sturdier knife, but the recurve can be difficult to sharpen on regular sharpening stones. I recently gave mine to my cousin because I didn't use it.

The Bradley Spyderco is pretty interesting. Thanks for the tip!

How does that compare with the Leek?
It's more robust and fills the hand better. It has a textured grip and the slight recurve blade works better for cutting various materials from my experiences. The AO flies out compared to the leeks I have owned. The blade is more robust than the leek. The leek is a dainty knife in my eyes and the blade tip is thin. The Blur is superior for my uses as an outdoor knife.A solid choice and great value for a Made in USA knife.

This was my biggest knock against the Leek. I just didn't feel like the tip was going to be strong enough.

Have you taken a look at slipjoints? Great Eastern makes some great knives. I carry an Insingo and a Case Tribal Spear every day, along with a peanut.

Oh dude, manix or para 2 are great spydies and and will introduce you to some new locks. Any benchmade for the same reason. I don't know how smooth your zt is but unless its way smoother than all your others by a long shot you be pleased with how frictionless some of those allow blades to be! Have fun!
