New Combat Knife

IMG_0184.jpeg

The bottom two have NATO numbers.. out perform most “combat” style knives and cost around $115 average

The Demko is msrp $189 and probably going to outlast its owner.

Why does the government love to burn our tax money 😂

The standard Ka-Bar is under $200, I'm sure they would be under $100, if the government ordered that many.

Someone probably said "why would we use Grandpa's knife?"

I looked through their site, nothing popped up.

Their list of suppliers popped up a couple of familiar names.

It's really a non-news thing. The quantity is so low that saying the "Pentagon" ordered new combat knives is a real misnomer. Some unit put it on their budget and it was a blip line item approved.

DLA officials recorded the award at a total contract value not to exceed $350,000. Based on the estimated quantity of 489 units provided in the documentation, the approximate implied unit cost is about $716 per knife. Final pricing may vary depending on delivery batches and configuration specifics as orders are placed.
So, the knife is going to be made by someone else. And the contract gives a "not to exceed" value. So it does not say that the actual price per unit is $716. It just says it can't be any more than that. That's just hoopla from the fella that wrote the article.

I dunno, maybe the new knife is made of Beta Titanium. Those are pricey.

This ^. Probably a specialized bit of kit ordered in small batches. Probably isn't even combat related, but some other specific need for divers. With only 489 total in the contract, it is indeed low production.

It seems to be the exception, not the rule. If EVERYONE in the military got it (including the janitor) the country would collapse financially

If you go to their website and download their full catalog you can see all the stuff they source. Looks like kind of a procurement company more than a manufacturer, but I might be wrong. There's a few knives and edged tools in the catalog which you will find under the chapter BENCHMADE. Yes, yes they are.

I'm looking forward to seeing whether the knife gets a functional finger guard (just a personal bias).
