New Combat Knife

Why is everyone still thinking that these things are going to be $700+ each? Just an opportunity to be outraged?
People don't pay attention to the details on the contracts, or where it says, "up to," a certain amount. If they read the contracts for the M4 they would have thought we were paying thousands for each one and not just like $600.

It's like when people were up in arms over the government getting a contract for "up to," a few million rounds of ammo for many agencies. Not that they were going to buy that many for the IRS (who has internal affairs, and a few raid teams), but that they were locked in at a certain price for a maximum amount of rounds that could be bought in a set time period. So for 3 years or 240,000 rounds whichever came first (numbers are totally made up), the seller couldn't charge more than what was already agreed on.

A good point. ^^^
.Even a Chris Reeves Green Beret, in Magnicut mind you, comes in at or under $500 . . .on e-Bay.

But why do they now need a new knife? There is a plethora of suitable "combat" knives on the market already. /during WW-II, there was a Mil-Spec and more than one company would fill orders for whatever it was sat a similar price.

I am sure that any of the major knife makers could meet the spec at a reasonable price. I am thinking that there is a hesitation on the part of major industry players to tangle with regulations and QC documentation.

I guess what I meant to ask was: "Why do they need a different combat knife?

The Ka-Bar is as good as any now that they are made from corrosion resistant steels and synthetics. The design has got to be in the pub lic domaine after eighty plus years. Revise and publish that Mil-Spec and let the industry make them.

Why do they need a new combat knife? Because knives are a consumable item in the military. They get used up, broken, taken home, lost. They're just like boots and bullets.

It was mentioned that one of the puposes of the smatchet was to make sodiers feel badass holding one.

If you are going to jump in to a trench full of angry Gernans. You probably want to do that with confidence.

An iconic combat knife has a different image than a generic one.

I mean that is what sells defensive knives to the public.

The functional diffence between the $200 Benchmade OCCP. and a $5 pairing knife. Is the pairing knife gas the better handle.

The Australians also have a new combat knife, also for over $500. Most opinions I have seen say way over priced for a one piece, 4-inch bladed knife, made fro A2 steel.

Not sure why it is coming up as unavailable. Check on line for the "F7 Fighting Knife H2HFW. NSN -1095-66-167-9030, Part Number ZU1-301.
Just went on You Tube and typed "Australia's New Fighting Knife" and that video came right up. John

The Germans are on our side.

The Marine Ka Bar is such a storied blade. I have had in hand Ka-Bars that had been passed down from Marine father to son, grandson, and great-grandson. A knife that served in WW2, Korea, Vietnam, and the Middle East. Such blades are holy relics,
