This is a bit non-knife related, but is of interest to many of you.

I was contacted a while back by the USA 400th Anniversary ( Jamestown Settlement) committee. They wanted information on how to reproduce a piece of jewelery that was found in an archaeological dig at Jamestown. I was contacted by the head of the group today to commission me to make the piece (I will just say that it is a brooch for now). They wanted it made authentically and in the fashion the original was. They wanted it made by a local Virginia craftsman. It will require alloying, forging and drawing out gold, and carving the object by hand, and then setting it. The dollars involved are quite good, but that is not the real deal.

The big part is that this commission is for the USA gift to Queen Elizabeth II when she comes in six weeks to officiate the celebration. I will be involved in meeting the Queen and presenting the piece. I saw her when she came 50 years ago. (Some of you may know, but meeting the Queen is a lot harder to do than meeting the President.) It will certainly be the high point in my career.

I will post more on the piece as it develops, and will post photos if allowed to. At the very worst, you guys will see it a few hours before the Queen does.

Congratulations, Stacy! A very cool honor indeed.

That is quite an honor Stacy! I wish you all the best on the project. Some pics would be great when things get going. -Matt-

Congratulations, Bladesmith! What an honor...from several points of view.

Looking forward to those photos.

Well Heck, contact Stacy Apelt...He's from what I have seen/heard/read/seen again, a pretty dog-gone good artist to get the job done....OH, You are Stacy....Neat commission, don't be nervous....just apply you skill....
COOL!

By the way, no matter what the skill level, I'd be nervous as heck!!!! But don't you be!
Still totally COOL!

Quite an honor Stacy. Congrats! I can't wait to see this piece take shape! Make sure to gave a helper take as many pictures as possible of the creation process. If you have 1000 pictures and throw 90% of them away that still leaves a great number of good pictures! :)

congrats man. im glad to see one of our own being given such an honor. seems like you are going to be the local celebrity here. keep up the good work.

A well deserved honor. Quality, attractive artwork and an ethical mindset in everything you do has definitely earned you this honor. IMO, you weren't given this honor, but earned it through all of your efforts in the past. Congrats Stacy!

knowing what had to be done when i met the minister of defence for brekfast (on a USS boat mind you)
wow
and i cant wait tyo see what comes of this

when the cheif of protocol is badgering you with what do do and what to say, if he tells you to bow the the queen, remind him you lot wona war over whether or not y'all have to bow to the monarch of england :P

As a monarchist, I'd bow anyway, but I'm from one of her majesties dominions :D

That is " kick'in " Stacy  My Mom was born & raised in GB and will be following this one religiously ;) There is a craftsman (master woodcarver) & friend of mine that lives about 2 mi from here, he did quite a bit of the re-work for Windsor Castle when it burned. Now I know 2 master's working for the Queen :D ......Cheerio

One of my friends is the former Master Chief of the Navy. (for those of you who aren't enlisted USN, that is right next to GOD)
He was being instructed along with a bunch of others who were involved with some event that involved royalty. When they were instructed about bowing, one man said,"I bow to no King or Queen.". The protocol instructor said, "Very well, you may leave."
For those who aren't familiar with bowing, it has to do with respect, not loyalty or subjugation.
