New Compasses and lights

I have just started researching learning how to use a compass and I found this on Suunto's website. Sorry this is all I know about it.

"Global Balancing System

The vertical intensity and direction of the earth's magnetic field, the inclination, influences the horizontal plane of a compass needle according to the latitude where it is used. Due to inclination, compasses must be balanced for different geographical zones in order to keep the needle in a horizontal position."

I tried to understand what the fancy needle does, but I don't

If I am travelling on the equator, okay
But I will not be, so what is the advantage of this needle if I am north hemisphere based?

For me the the main factors were that the more freedom of needle movement the compass should be less picky about being level if used while fatigued and that I never know what tomorrow will bring. Fingured I may as well get one that would work if I did go below the equator.
