Computer problems

I have learned a lesson about buying computers. In the last 1.5 years both of the computers I have been using are scrap.
One was a cirix 266 and the other a AMD 450 mhz 11

I have broke down and bought a P3 450 and good add ons..

COMMENTS: on computer problemns?

If ya upgrade a little as U go along it don't hurt as bad......But it does not ever end.....I have just uped my ram and processor
I went from 96MB ram to 320 MB( got a good price) & from a 266PII to a 550 PIII. Im waiting for the new Vodoo 5 video cards & I will be done for about 6 mths.

It never ends Darrel, I started out with an 8mhz 286 machine and have gone through every generation Intel has offered since then. My PII is about to be replaced with a PIII, and I just read that AMD is about to release the 1 gigahertz chip, so I'll be behind before I start.

Darrel, The rule is to get the most expensive machine you can afford. The more updated the machine the longer it's useful life will be. Unless your also constantly upgrading software that requires more powerful hardware, people generally don't want to open up there box. Yes, I know that if you wait it'll be cheaper, but that also means a newer version is out. In computers the way it works is "if it's on the market, it's obsolete" Most manufacturer's are usually 90% into the alpha or already into the beta stage of a pc when the supposed current one is released for sale onto the market. I've had my present machine for 10-12 months and it will probably go another year before replacing. this machine 10 months later is around $1200 cheaper than when I got it. But what are you going to do?

Jerry I saw that .. That make my one week old chip a 1955 pontiac hahahahha
I am please with the intel so far . Ill see if the cad program can stall it then Ill do a cutting test with it.. Put it in the vice and use a pipe to bend the case. Then throw the monitor out the window and see if it fails the sharpness test..

NOTHING WILL PASS/I promise

DOS is wonderfull: it does exactly what you tell it to do and nothing else.
And I love my 486-25 DX

Just for the BF I am using something else...

Darrel,

Hmmm... nobody told you that the P-III 450 Mhz was phased out a few months after it was released, due to bugs?

Oh well, as long as it's still working well for you, it shouldn't be a problem...

Good luck!

Dan

My 233MHz Pentium still works OK for the house, all I do is a little spreadsheet and word processor work (Excel and Word). It has no problem keeping up with a 56K internet connection.

But at work, nothing less than a 400.....I guess the faster machines get, the more impatient we become.

Y'all ought to try building your own. It's easier than making knives! I have a P166 w/64megs ram and a cable modem. I can never complain it runs like a champ! And if and when anything goes wrong I can fix it in no time because I know exactly what's inside! And yes, when you're through building it, it gives you the same type satisfaction of "I built that"!
