New contest...possibly

This is just in the idea stage right now but thought I would throw it out there. Patricia and Mike are getting hammered with phone calls about technical issues concerning how to properly attach sheaths, how to make a MOLLE lock fit, etc. Actually most of these questiosn could be found out by simply doing a little research but people call anyway. Now, with that said, we don't mind people calling in but Patricia is only one person and she has to answer phones as well as do all the accounting work. So, here's my idea: take the most frequent issues that people call in about and let everyone here know what they are. Then, we get a contest going for the best instructional video explaining these issues. For example, how to properly thread a MOLLE strap. How to adjust tension on a sheath, How to mount a Tek-Lok or MOLLE Lock, how to attach a MOLLE back, how to sharpen a knife, and about half a million other things we could cover. Then once the best video is picked we simply put it up on our web page under the right instructional heading so people can actually see the task being done. Again, this is just in the thinking stages right now but I'm throwing it out there for feedback.

I’ve been thinking about getting a camera. I need to weasel one in on my Christmas list. The glass breaking vid I did with the ESEE-5 was pretty poor quality since I used my regular camera.

I think it would be kind of neat to have some vids like that on the website. With that said, the info is on the website but requires that….what do they call the thing with the eyes and the letters….uhhhh…..READING!

If I'm going to be famous I need to get a nose job and work on my accent.

Dude, you're already famous so just live with the ugly face that brought you to the dance!

Jeff,

Sounds like it'd be a good idea. I'd help out w/o a contest, but I don't have a video camera. Have you considered doing separate videos for separate issues. You could cover molle-loks and tek-loks in one vid, and threading webbing in another, etc. I personally find those kinds of videos more helpful if they are broken up in that manner. It keeps me from scanning through material that does not pertain to my problem. It gives the added bonus of being able to replay it easily if I need additional viewings to get what's going on (which I have needed in some cases.)

God bless,
Adam

Whether you make it a contest or not, just post the list of FAQ's you want videos for and we'll take care of it. I'd love to help out where I can. We'll post them up on Youtube and you can decide which one's you'd prefer to post a link to from your website.

I'm in, brother.

R.A.T., my god, I have just one request . . . . . . . .

PLEASE DO NOT LET CRICKET DAVE ANYWHERE NEAR A PAIR OF SURVIVAL PANTIES OR A VIDEO CAMERA IN CASE SOMEONE WANTS TO KNOW WHAT SURVIVAL PANTIES ARE ! ! ! ! :D:thumbup:
Be safe.
p.s.: Cricket, ya' know I respect ya' & luv ya' & all, but . . . . :).
(Hope the fingers are healing ok too)

sounds cool .... I guess instruction sheets are not good enough & they are posted on website as well ..... :D

I think it is a great idea. There are a lot of very visual people out there who have trouble understanding things from text so I think a video would help them out. Plus it would give a lot of retailers and people like me a place to send people who have questions on the stuff. It is a lot easier to say here go check out this website instead of spending 20 min trying to explain to them how it works over the phone. I think it would really help out with the FAQ section of a lot of websites.

Also I like the idea of a seperate short video for each question that way somebody doesn't have to sit through 30 min of information that they already know to get the answer to their question.

Good lord what has happened to common sense.

I figure if you can't figure out how to attach molle locks and backs, you probably shouldn't own a knife.

No need for a contest Jeff, we'll get these videos done for you.

How bout this, Jeff:

You post a list of all the questions that you get. We vote on who has the stupidest question and then we take their knives away?

The knives then go into an ESEE community pool and when someone around here does something particularly useful or enterprising, we let them pick a knife out of the pool.

We repeat as necessary :)

Sounds like a good contest to me. Would you be open to the idea of step-by-step photographs as well? Sometimes having still images can be useful for folks trying to work through the steps.

Best idea in this thread so far.

I agree with these guys, I'm in, assuming my ugly mug doesn't scare people away from the site. :D

I like the idea of separate vids as well, not only for the ease of use, but also for the fact that everyone has a specialty. For example, I may be able to accurately describe how to attach Tek-Loks or MOLLE back, but (just an example) Joe Fowler may be better at showing how to sharpen a knife than I am. If we have separate vids, then the best of each category can be used so that anyone who has a hard time reading and using common sense (had to say it ;)) can learn from the best videos for their particular problem.

And, like others have said, I'm happy to help even without a contest.

Pretty smart idea to me. Your employee's time is probably worth more than a few knives and bits of gear.

Sounds good Jeff. If I may make a suggestion, it would be for the video to be quiet so it will speak to everyone around the World. Video should suffice anyway

You should talk. Some of the best videos on youtube and I can't understand what the f you are saying. :D

The only problem that I can see with this is that if people already wont do the research to look up how to do it, then why would they go on the website to look for an instructional video? I'm sure a lot of these subjects are already covered on youtube so im not sure if putting them up on the website would make a difference

This is a great point. Sometimes you just can't fix stupid.

Whenever a question is asked we could point them (with a link even) to the video.

I think what Jeff is hoping for is an "end-all" video answering each FAQ. By watching the video there is NO WAY anyone would be confused.

But it's only a hope, of course!

Sounds like a fun contest. Almost every contest I have seen thus far seems to produce some useful knowledge anyway. I like the idea of still pictures to, but thats because my video camera sux!
