Been seeing this around. It's a CHRIS REEVE UMKHOMBE. Is it legit.....??? Only available in Germany....!

I emailed CRK, but have yet to hear back from them. In this world of " fake " CRK we live in, gotta be sure these days..... Lol. Especially since there is vritually NO info on it anywhere except the German site.

From what I heard, it's an exclusive to that company. Just want confirmation from CRK is all...:-)

It looks nice..

Just bought a Insingo Nyala off of the exchange too..
Hrmm...If this one is legit..It may be finding a way into my small but growing collection :)

It's a little hard to believe that if CRK came out with a new knife that it would be exclusive to one country.

I saw photos of this posted on the Chris Reeve fan page on facebook. I believe it's a German outfit that sells them. Looks legit.

They did it with the OPK's. Search for "Phantom" made for the French market, a run of 100 iirc.......

Hm, I wasn't able to find much. I guess I'm basing my reaction off the assumption that the USA is the largest consumer of CRK's and that it would be strange to make a whole new knife (not just a modified version like the Wilson Startac/benzas) and then not offer it for sale in your largest market.

Germany exclusive

This shop is the largest outfitter chain in Germany and they are having CR knives within their portfolio for many years. So no doubt that they are not selling a fake. Seems to be kind of a dealer exclusive.

btw. 370 US Dollars is also exclusive ......

That is surprising, but maybe that means they will start doing limited runs more often. I am sure there are several dealers here that would love to commission a knife! How about a limited run hollow handle with a 4 inch blade......

Got an email from CRK. It's is a legit offering and exclusive to that company. Hope to get one eventually as it looks like an awesome design. Bigger than the Nyala.

Got one in about a week ago. Comes with all the CRK bells and whistles, i.e. typical CR design elements, cardboard box, lanyard, sticker, birthday card etc., so there is absolutely no doubt about it being a legit CR knife. The seller, Globetrotter, is the best outdoor shop in Germany and known for stellar customer service. Two companies beyond reproach backing this one up, so buy with confidence.

It is an excellent design. My two emails to CRK for background info on the Umkhombe regrettably went unanswered, but it seems to have the high hollow grind of the 25. Very grippy handle due to form and texture. Excellent leather work as usual by Gfeller with a press button closed belt loop.
Made very short work of a 100 kg wild boar. A slicer, very secure, lots of leverage, surprisingly easy to maneuver, very precise cutting. A tad big as a hunting knife, but it has grown on me tremendously and is now a hot contestant for the Nyala, might even replace it. To my mind the Umkhombe fills a niche in the CRK line-up.

Chris hit the ball out of the park with this one.

Hi Dan - so do you have European connections or are you in Europe? I looked at the website and my ancient high school German class is doing little good by now. I could not find a translation of the website but they provide a translation for their info/contact page. It appears they normally only sell in Europe but will sell abroad if contacted personally by email. I'll look for specifications on the website but if you're feeling benevolent, might you supply some? I'm guessing CPM S35V for the steel? Thank you. Mike

PS - thanks guys for bringing this up.

PPS - Dan, you can disregard the request for the details (unless you just want to supply them for this thread). I found that it was pretty easy to get through the description on the website. Thanks. Mike

Hi Mike,
a German here. As far as I know they do sell to other countries by special order via direct contact. But, CRK prices here in Germany are not what you guys in the US are used to. Prepare to get a sticker shock. Add postage fees, custom duties etc. and you are looking at an expensive exercise.

Would like to provide some more information on the knife, but all my pleadings to CRK for information beyond the specs provided by Globetrotter have fallen on deaf ears. I am not even certain if this is a knife exclusively made for and only sold by Globetrotter. On the website it says that the knife is Germany-exclusive, which is to say that in Germany it is only sold by Globetrotter. Nothing more, nothing less. So it may well be sold by other CRK dealers in other countries. It is quite possible that Globetrotter just jumped the gun with the introduction of this knife. So I would suggest just a bit of patience until the facts become clear.

Took a day or so for them to get back to me. Thats the norm as I know they are a very busy little company. Heather game me some info and said Anne is working on a writeup for it. When I get that, I will post it for you guys.

As the post above stated, price is high due to european market and duties and taxes. I think it marked 299 in euro, which I read is $375 + all the duties and such puts it in large sebenza price range. Nice knife, but I would just not spend that much on it if this is indeed accurate. I am sure our German buddies can give us a more accurate details regarding price.

Anyways, it is indeed an Awesome Design.

I like it and it looks like a real nice useable knife in a near pefect size for me. :)

I'm well used to high European prices so that doesn't frighten me much. :p ......those handle scales would be a deal killer for me though. Classic CRK style black canvas micarta would have been perfect.
