Okay Guys, Here It Is........................I got a small "P" Style Sebenza. Nothing really special, but since my wife is losing her job next month and mine will follow shortly ( both work at the same place and because of poor decisions are going to close our plant employing 1200 people ), it is special because I know it will probably be awhile before I can afford another CRK.
I was never a fan of the small 21 sebenza because of the blade profile and the fact I had a hard time opening them for some reason. With this "P" style sebenza, I dont have a problem opening it at all.
It has a larger chamfer which my thumb fits like it was made for just me. Plus, it has the regular blade profile which I know and love.
There are no markings in the handle slabs and it has an old style thumb stud which is pretty cool looking. I Love this Blockier Ti slabs on this sebenza. MUCH more than the 21 by a landslide. Kinda reminds me of the difference between the Vintage Buck 110 and the New Buck 110.
The clip has been replaced because I know these older ones had the straight clip. I like the longer clip though. I do have a straight clip that I may put on it to make it original, I will have to see.
From the info I have gathered on it, its an old sebenza with ATS-34 Steel. Lockup is about 80% and is solid as a rock. What I think is amazing is that it looks to have the factory edge. It could use a sharpening. The previous owner stated they only used it to cut open packaging tape and it looks like they did oly that. There are some scuffs on the Ti scales which I may clean with "0000" steel wool which removed all the scuffs on my umnumzaan when I got it. The scales are SOOO smooth that I may just leave them like it is. Every scuff tells an adventure the knife has been on !!!
I emailed Anne Reeve and asked for some info on this knife. It looks just like a "P" Sebenza, but there is no "P" on it. I have seen small "P" sebenzas in pics and they have been marked with the "P", so that stumped me a little. Plus, any "P" Sebenzas I have seen in either size did not have a clip or the means to attach one, while this one does ?
I love this little knife. It is flawless in every way, plus I got it at a great price. And with my job siuation the way it is, I could not be happier. It has already become one of my favorite CRK folders of all time and a lifetime keeper for sure !
In fact, I like it so much, I ordered a small silver Dog Paws lanyard for it today. When it arrives next week, I will break it down for a thorough cleaning. When I get it cleaned up and install the lanyard, I will post some updated pics !!!
Here is the info Anne gave me. If you guys with "P" style sebbies have any info you want to share, it would be appreciated not only for me, but for others who may have one just like this !
"Glad you found an older member of society! We never did mark the small original Sebenzas with the P. By that time we had already realized that the P was sometimes being misrepresented as Prototype instead of Production. What you have is an Original Sebenza, not a Classic. I am almost positive it would be ATS34 our plan had been to switch to BG42 with the introduction of the Regular Sebenza but we were a bit late so some Regular Sebenzas are ATS34 but I dont think any Original Sebenzas were BG42. The knife was probably made with a clip it was really the large Original profile Sebenzas that were clip-less. I would guess that the clip has been replaced because I think we were still using the older style straight clips then.
Thanks Again Anne, Your The Best !!!
