New CS Master Hunter in CM3-V ... got it... Question though..

FTR-14c, it looks to me like the edge is thinner on my 3v compared to my San Mai. It could be the taper throwing me off, but the 3v blade looks thinner at the edge. Hope this helps.

It looks like ColdSteel is taking advantage of 3vs toughness by thinning down the blade some. That is very encouraging, I already liked the San Mia version, the 3v looks awesome.
For those who have both, is there any difference in thickness at or behind the edge? That's where it counts!

Fallkniven S1

So doing some research as I have not seen a Carbon V MH in many years... it seems that the Carbon V had the same taper from the handle to the tip. Wonder why they did this with carbon steel models and kept the non tapered spine for the stainless models....
They did both tapers with the Carbon V, I have one of each. I started a thread years ago asking about this, but never got a good answer why....

I think they work fine for touch ups, but if there's damage or major dulling or damage, diamonds will make it much easier. CPM 3V really sharpens up cleanly, at least mine do, and I've been using it for quite a while, my first was a couple of Fehrmans, I really like this steel.

My pleasure! I just got my MH in CPM 3V today. This is really upping the bar, IMO. CS hit a home run here. The finish is very well done, lots of distal taper, and the 3V is holding it's edge very well so far. Even the sheath is very good quality, how they put it together, drain hole placement, this knife is a steal at this price. I might have to get a backup.

Lol....I already got my back up.

Missed the carbon v version by a few months due to budget

When the aus-8 prybar came out I had the budget but was not impressed for a hunting blade.

Now that the old profile is back it is on my radar again.

Thin is in for a sub 5in knife
there is still plenty of backbone on the new/old profile and just plain better for skinning, fleshing or whittlin'.
