Just in from FedEx to my door...David Mosier "Spyro" Flipper with titanium frame lock and the elusive "Lightning Strike Carbon Fiber" with IKBS. :eek:This is Davids latest custom tactical folder. I lucked out with this incredible knife. One of those (right place, right time) deals. Thanks to Les at "Robersons custom cutlery" for putting the deal together. Lots of pics and descriptions...

David puts a edge on his knife that is beyond sharp. Hands down nothing I have ever handled is this sharp.

David's finishing on the blade is amazing.

The David Mosier logo and IKBS logo are sharp and crisp.

The flipper is the best design I have used. Mosier puts gimping on the flipper tank and uses a harder angle. It generates faster knife opening than any of my assisted opening knives. It literally is a blur when the knife opens. This combined with the IKBS system is unmatched in smoothness and speed from any conventional washer type system. Yea, its that good. So smooth it makes my CRK feel rough. Needless to say there is absolutely no blade play in any direction.

Lightning Strike Carbon Fiber is a special carbon fiber that has bronze wire weaved though out the carbon fiber. It is designed for the military to direct lightning strikes around carbon fiber instead of blowing a hole through it. It is very very rare and only a few few custom knife maker got their hands on it. I was told that when the allotment is gone, its gone. It will be the theme with those makers at this years blade show.

The handle just fits to perfection with jimping on the top of the titanium bolster. The blade shape has a finger choil that allows you to choke up on the blade for fine cutting.

The back spacer is also made of carbon fiber. Everything is seamless.

Obviously perfect blade centering.

Thick titanium frame lock that isnt sticky when new or requires a break-in period.

I have discovered a big difference between a Full blown custom and my many higher end production custom knives. For a bit more money you get a lot more knife that sets a new standard in performance. I cant recommend David Mosier knives enough. He builds a real hard use knife that sets a standard on how good a well thought out design and fit and finish can be. There is NO compromising with his knives.

I wanted to add.
If you dont feel like waiting for David Mosier to make you your own Spyro "lightning strike carbon fiber" frame lock.
If you move very fast....like now.
Les at "Robersons Custon Cutlery" has one 4" Spyro "liner lock" and one 4.5" Spyro "liner lock". Both are in Lightning Strike Carbon Fiber with IKBS system. He got these other two knives in with my knife from David Mosier.

What a gorgeous knife!!
Dave Mosier can surely make a beautiful knife

Thanks guys. I knew my brother blade aficionados would appreciate the details of this knife. My wife's comment was "that's a nice knife, it looks expensive. How much this time?". I didn't have the heart to tell her. So I didn't. I have been rat holeing money away for a full blown custom for some time now so i knew what i was getting in for and no one is the wiser.:D

I have a few of Davids knives, they're extremely well made. Smooth, sharp, look and feel great.

That little comment at the end about the difference in custom knives was along the lines of what I was thinking as I was looking at the pics. You can see the extreme attention to detail and precision of all the pieces, congratulations, that is a stunning knife.

Love it! :thumbup::thumbup: Nice score!!
I'm a big fan of David Mosier and his work & attention to detail, and he just keeps getting better & better...oh yeah, he's got mad skillz! Not to mention that he's a really nice guy, too.

Great pix! Thanxx for posting them. :)

...Dang it! Now I want a Spyro... :D

I want share another reason why to buy a DM custom knife. I emailed David Mosier yesterday about a IKBS cleaning question after I field dress a deer with his knife. He replied back to me in under 12 hours. I hope David doesn't mind but I want to post his email he sent me. He is absolutely a class act....

Here is his email reply........

Hey Mystro,
*
Glad you like the Spyro!! The finish on the titanium is my version of an orange peel. I think it looks cleaner than some of the others I have seen, and it is really durable.
*
The IKBS is packed with lithium grease, so it should hold up without any maintenance for awhile. If you get it real bloody, just rinse it off real well and maybe cote it with some WD 40, or your favorite cleaner and oil. I like to rinse mine off, and then blow the water and debris out with an air compressor, then cote it with WD 40 and re hit it with the compressor to get the excess off, and then*wipe it down.
*
If you ever need any major*maintenance on it I will be more than happy to do it, and just charge you the return shipping.

Funny story,....my brother in law came by last night. He is into knives but not customs. He was picking up a package and asked to use my knife to open it. Normally I never have a problem with that request and give what ever knife I am carrying (BM, Strider,etc....). This time it was different because I have been carrying my new custom Spyro flipper. I stopped and asked what was he going to cut? He said he just wanted to cut the tape off of his package to open it up. I didn't say anything and carefully handed him my new flipper. I watched as he tried to open it without any thumb studs. He looked confused and asked how do you open it. I said use the flipper on the back with your thumb. He opened the knife in a blur of blade speed. He looked surprised and said "holy shi* it's a assisted custom knife like his Kershaws.". I said nope. It's just that smooth. He insisted it had to be a assisted opening knife. I had to slowly open the knife and explain what IKBS is and let him feel the blade smoothness for him to believe. I then gave him the tour of my new custom knife. He was blown away and could see why it cost what it did.
