So, a while ago I was visiting Butch Harner and saw this piece of redwood he had laying on the bench:

It got me thinking...Tonight I finished this:

The picture sucks, the lighting is bad and it's blurry, but until I get some natural light it's the best I have. More pictures will be forthcoming for sure. I'm pleased with it as a first effort down this road, but I want to tweak it a bit...I'd like a bit more of an "organic" feel to it...

I'll buy some bar stock from you, if you decide to sell any. ;)

Oh, it'll be for sale for sure, that's what I made it for. :) This billet is more for folders or small fixed blades. the finished size of the pieces will be about 1 1/8"x1/8"x7" which should be enough for a small fixed blade or a folder blade and a pair of bolsters. It will be a little bit before it's available for sale since I have to finish several other things and send everything out for grinding at once. Look for some for sale posts from me in about a month or so.

Sweet. As I am a forgetful man, if you think about it I'd appreciate a heads up posting in this topic when you make the post in the for-sale forum.

Hopefully it will be inexpensive enough for us little guys to afford. That would go well with some birds eye maple.

Thanks for the kind words folks.

Tattooedfreak, I'd like to think that my prices are pretty reasonable. Depending on a processing cost that I'm estimating right now (I'll know the details sometime next week) it should be about $10-12/in. Hopefully that works for you and the rest of the "little guys" :)

Make it in those specs but at 10" long I may be up for a billet myself.

10" may be a bit of a stretch...I'll have to see if I can make the pattern work at that length. If it would work, it would be a good bit more work, but then again, I've never not done something just because it was difficult :)

Hey Deker, if you have some small chunks left over that could be turned into bolsters and fittings I might be interested in offcuts.(I'd pay full price of course, not trying to cheap out) I like to make my own damascus for my blades, but that would really complement some burl as a dagger gaurd or a bolster

hey d,
looks like you are putting that new press to some good use! That damascus looks awesome. Is this 1080 and 15n20?

I'll probably have some at Ashokan. You coming this year?

You know it Jake! Aldo's 1084 and Kelly's 15n20, with a little W-1 thrown in for fun.
