New Date codes

I wonder why you don’t just start with A? Then B that would get you 25 more years because X is already taken. Then AA BB…. Etc. or maybe that would be too boring? Also at my age it would give me a goal to make it to Z.

Also it would create a new category of knives. Pre alphabet or pre alpha as i’m sure it will be called.
Would have been great if it could be started this year as A would be the 2021 A being the 1st letter in the alphabet. J being the 10th would be a 2031 and so on so forth.
Could always have no A and make 2022 B?
Darn V and possibly C and maybe U were used weren’t they. Ok could use letters for example A then upside down then right then left like the symbols.

good suggestion. we are working on a system that will last until eternity. I'll bring this style up. You are right, there are certain letters that can't be used.

We are working on the new date codes now for beyond 2022. I will post it up as soon as it is done.

Hi Jeff, on the June BOTM there is an asterisk mark for the date code - to my knowledge, there are no other BOTM knives with this date code (nor any other buck knives ?). Do you know why the June BOTM is different from the other BOTM's which have a standard date code ? Thank you

If you go with a 2-digit hex system, the below will take you 256 years into the future. :D

Just had a real crazy thought? Almost like an inspiration. Like a spiritual experience.
why not just do the seemingly un thinkable.
JUST PUT THE YEAR ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE TANG? 2021 for example Or find a way to put it on the same side: 110-21 or 110 21 110 22 110 99 etc etc etc….
110 100 would be the year 2100 but really after 110 99 our great grand kids can figure it out.

Even crazier, why a date code at all? OK, don’t hang me. The 2-digit year code seems quite reasonable, as does the hex system of you prefer it to be somewhat inscrutable.

Inscrutable is that a term that means confusing or mysterious? I have always lived by the code “Keep it simple stupid.” Not that I’m insinuating anyone here is simple
Lol

True i find people are amazed when i tell them what year a 110 is and they think i am so smert lol
Ebay had a sellers description of a 110 she was selling based on the custom company engraving on the blade. Thought Alocolm(or something like that) was what steel it was made of so I emailed her a code sheet as i could not read the tang in her picture. She was amazed and said “looks like its a 1987” i then told her 87 used 425M steel. Mystery solved and i had fun educating her.
To be honest i went many many years not knowing anything about date codes. This forum taught me that. I just knew i bought my 2nd 110 in 1978 replacing my original one i bought in 1971-72(broken tip) that was stolen in a home burglary.

I've had sellers like that, as I'm sure we all have. Flip of that though is a gentleman I've been going back and forth with in "messages" about CRKs. I made an offer on one of his and while I didn't end up buying it he's been a great back-n-forth communicator... truly a collector sort and not just an "eBay seller". Refreshing.

We missed adding the date code in place of the asterisk :)

Stamping the year on it may not be a good idea as it may put some people off, or there are times when a knife is assembled later, or ships really late. Someone isn't upset if they buy a knife with a %& (made up) code on it but they may be if that code was instead 2004 stamped on it and now they think they got a "used" knife.

May be rare but hard to guess how people think. The single symbol code is also less to put on a blade so less crowded than the 2 digit year.
