Just received a new pack in the mail. The Maxpedition Kodiak in Foliage Green. It is the larger of the two new gearslingers and is based off of their very popular single strap Monsoon. This pack is a box shape and set up to be easily opened and closed by swinging it to the front of the body.

I know Max. is not everyone's preference but I've great respect for the quality of their products (Jumbo Versipack, Pygmy Falcon II, M2 Waistpack). This bag will be my EDC for work and grad school and then converted to a day hike bag. It should hold plenty of gear for a long dayhike/overnight. I really like highly organized bags and Maxpedition specializes in just such products.

I will have a more detailed review in the near future but I know you guys always like to hear about new arrivals. :D

Congrats on the score. I'm thinking about stepping up from a Maxpedition Remora to a Lunada for an EDC bag.

Something you might find out, though, is that a gearslinger as a day hiking bag isn't as comfortable as a backpack. It drags on the shoulder. I tried carrying a Maxpedition Colossus on a short day hike recently and found out that I wished I had a backpack for water (in a hydration pouch) and infrequently-accessed gear + a waistbelt for things like my camera and binoculars.

YMMV.

Thanks for the advice. I will keep that in mind when packing the pack. For everyday use at work and school I don't think it will be an issue, but I can see how a long day of walking might be an issue, depending on weight in the pack. I really appreciate the secondary strap which comes up under the left arm, it assists in relieving the pressure on the left shoulder.
