Hello Shop Talk!

I think (or at least hope) a good number of you already know me a bit from the forums, but I thought a little thread to introduce myself to those who don't might be in order. :)

My name is Brian, and I'm one of the newer dealers here on BladeForums. I actually picked up my dealer membership here a few months ago, but I wanted to make sure the website launch went well before I made the announcement here. I've been selling on Instagram for the past several months, and just launched the website last month. Demand has been excellent. In fact, it has actually delayed my announcement here because I wanted to build up a suitable inventory before announcing it to the group of makers I respect so much. I think I'm there.

New products will be added to the website on a regular basis. For now, there is mainly a selection of vintage Micarta and phenolics, with a smattering of K&G stabilized wood scales. I think my current offerings may be one of the largest, if not the largest selection of Westinghouse Micarta found for sale online. There is also a nice selection of vintage phenolics from companies such as Current Composites, International Paper, National Vulcanized Fibre, etc... As well as several rag phenolic recipes.

I am currently working out the quirks in my drum sander for wood knife scales, so my offering for now is limited when it comes to wood. What I do have available is offered at a discount since it is somewhat roughly finished. This offering will be GREATLY expanded in the near future. I have over 3,000 K&G stabilized blocks consisting of mainly dyed and natural curly maple, maple burl, black ash burl, poplar burl, box elder burl, and redwood burl... as well as a couple thousand unstabilized, natural blocks consisting mainly of desert ironwood, cocobolo, and other rosewoods.

More exotic offerings will be also be coming soon. I have over 100 pounds of Fordite, Graffite, and mammoth ivory that will be available as soon as I perfect the casting/processing.

So... A little about myself. First and foremost, I am a husband and father. I have been married for almost five years, but we have been together for over sixteen years. We have a two year old son, an eleven year old husky, and a ~twenty year old ball python. I have been a knife enthusiast for a long time now. At one point I had over three hundred knives, but I have since paired that down to just over one hundred and fifty or so. Knife tools are expensive... Who would have thought? 😂

Along with running KnifeHandleSupply.com, I also work for Costco Wholesale. I have recently reduced my hours to give the website more of my attention though. I hoping this will allow me to ramp things up to a much greater degree soon.

Along with being a knife enthusiast, I am very obviously a vintage Micarta/phenolic junkie... And also have a infatuation with burl wood and dalbergia species. That's actually how all of this started. My personal collection just got out of control, so I sold off a bit. Feedback was excellent, so I decided why not jump in head first? I'm also a bit of a steel snob with a huge soft spot for high carbon tool steels, and powdered metallurgy stainless steels.

I guess that's all for now. If you have any questions, I'm here!

I will be at the Pacific Northwest Custom Invitational show in Seaside, Oregon next month on the 29th of July. I hope to meet some of you there!

Welcome, your page looks Great, I follow you on IG

I bought some WW2 tag micarta some time ago, before You......(not from Your page because Idk if you were selling Then)
It looks Beautiful. But, WOW was it stinky. Horrible!

It was my only time working with it.
Is it All bad/stinky?
I love the looks of the green and yellow stuff I've seen on your page, but I'm worried.

*also, id Love to see a high quality, possibly American, orange micarta if available offered

Ha! Yes... For the most part, it is all very stinky, lol. Funny you should mention the green rag. It's probably some of the stinkiest phenolic materials I've worked with. 😂 It's probably just under mammoth ivory when it comes to the "gag factor", lol. The 1970's Onan canvas is another one that stinks to high heaven. It sure looks and finishes beautiful though!

The Westinghouse rag Micarta doesn't smell nearly as bad, but it's a rather rare material, so it can get pricey.

There is some vintage, orange paper phenolic from both Current Composites and Spaulding that I have been trying to get my hands on, but haven't had a lot of luck. I don't really deal with modern phenolics/Micartas, but I'll keep my eyes peeled for you. :)

I don't know where it is manufactured, but I know that Pop's has some burnt orange canvas phenolic that I found to be decent quality.

Thanks, Josh! I’m absolutely stoked to be at the point where I’m comfortable announcing it on the forum. I didn’t want to mess anything up, lol!

I’m super glad you’ve liked the material so far! Having it featured on some of your builds is as good as it gets. I’m absolutely honored! 😀

Your upcoming releases are going to be out of this world! I can’t wait to watch the feeding frenzy. 😂

Lots of great offerings on your website. I'll take a more careful pass later and check back from time to time.
I'd love to see some blocks (rather than just scales) of vintage micarta suitable for a Bowie handle...

I’ll see if I can make that happen. :)

The majority of the vintage phenolics I come across are 3/16” - 1” thick, but every once in awhile I get some thick stuff in.

Love the site, just put in an order for some beautiful dyed burl scales to put on upcoming projects. You definitely seem to know your stuff, so I'm sure I'll be back for more things as my projects get fancy enough to justify the material.

Congratulations Brian! I wish you the best of luck!!!
