Do you think a big honker like this... coupled with a small kiridashi type knife (sheath-mounted together) would be a viable woods carry? I may try this out for a while. Seems I've been gravitating toward larger blades lately.

The sheath is gonna be cool for this one.

Rick, a real beauty!

I've been loving the range of a dedicated 7"+ camp knife/bush knife as well!

This one seems to fit some areas often left out. It looks like a nice cutter and slicer, but also a great penetrator for some pigstickin'!

That little guy in the design looks great too!

Looks nice Rick!

I know coupling my M-43 kukri with a smaller fixed blade works real well for me.

YES.

I have Christof (Koyote Knives) working a big/small combo pair for me,

…though the ratio in size is not as extreme as yours.

I thing that big honker looks very nice! However I don't like piggyback rigs - smaller knives or PSK's.

im not sure how well itd work rick....i think you need to have me test it out :p

although it looks great....are there any holes on the tang if one wanted to add his/her own handles? (yes i do see the naked pic of it) i like the tip! i was just drilling on some wood with my koyote last night has the same tip. great job man!

I like it, at 5/32 it must be like a feather in hand.

For me a large blade paired up with something smaller is ideal, nice work.

Thanks for sharing.

I'm a fan of piggyback rigs. And rustic camp knives. And patinas. So this one gets a big 'win' from me! Nice work. Do I detect a hint of choil? ;)

If the combination included a firesteel or pouch for flint and striker, it would really be an all-in one unit - good for field dressing a maple tree or starting a camp fire.

All the best,

- Mike

Looks great Rick

Don't let KGD near that thing ... he might amputate a leg this time :D

...are there any holes on the tang if one wanted to add his/her own handles?

There is a 5/16" hole in the rear of the tang. If anything, I would think it would be a hidden tang refurbish. The tang wouldn't be wide enough just to pin new scales on it. That handle has 1/4" leather (glued and sealed) slabs under the wrap... which is tied on through the tang hole and epoxy soaked. It is all smoothed out and "Ain't goin" nowheres."

What?..... you don't likey?:p

Rick

It would be an awesome addition to a throwing hawk for a frontier fighting set. Man that blade would look good with my tomahawk...

What else would you expect from a......what was it, doddering old geezer? Wish I could remember. :D

Doc

Actually, it was babbling old man.:p

If we do ever meet up for a woods walk, you're gonna ditch me in some remote area of the Niagra Escarpment, aren't you? TF made me say it.

Dunno Rick, the long blade/short blade combo seems to be almost universal for all cultures throughout history, I don't see why it wouldn't work.
I'd prefer a 3" blade for the shorter knife, but that's personal preference.

I also happen to be one of (apparently few) that likes to piggyback knives.

Sounds like a good idea to me.

Gonna pair the set with your Norse hawk?

Nice one Rick. I think the Turks head know is a really nice touch. The penetrator tip is really neat too. That was nice of you to acknowledge Christof for it in your post in the Maker's section.

I'll dare say it. Might be a bit too big :D

If you can get that little guy a 3.75" handle it would give a good solid 4 finger grip.
