New Design Frenzy.

This handle is larger than the other models....same goes for the Drop Point Toad

This is why I like it! The handle on the proto felt great, but was too small for me. So the larger handle is perfect.

Definitely gotta keep my eyes open for the Bowie.

I really liked the looks of the Drop Point Toad that was posted this week. What are the handle and blade lengths on that knife?

For those of you on the fence about the new designs, see below; enough said ;). I finally had some free time today to give these a once over and get an initial first impression -- I will be posting a separate review later this week, but as a long time fan of Andy & co's work, these new profiles blew my mind. If you are a fan of Kukri style grips (as I am), the new line up will very much be in your wheel house!

I resisted hard on that bowie. Great looking profile. Looking forward to the the review and hopefully some in hand shots

Regarding the Drop Point Toad, I answered my own question: 4” Blade & 8 3/4” OAL.

Andy, can you speak to your inspiration for this knife? What do you see as being its strengths?

FWIW, I think it is totally cool that you are shaking up your designs and trying new stuff. Not many knife makers have the balls (or creative skills) to do that. Good on you, brother!

Instead of being a shark, I am more of a tuna and seldom get the knife I want on Fidleback Friday. However, I am going to closely monitor the dealers and the Flea Market, and look forward to scoring one of your new designs soon.

As of Vance's latest posting of available knives from Fiddleback Friday, there were 7 of the new designs still available.

Gratuitous swedge teaser :D

Thanks Phillip. Already tried out the handle design with one of the first prototypes, and loved it.

Really like that bowie blade with it!

Man, I'm glad you got those my friend. I think that swedge is the best I've ever done. Certainly its the most complicated one. I'm going to do more of those for sure. That Renegade was so hard to sell for me. I wanted to keep it soooooo bad. Can't wait to see the review.

Well, as to the strengths, the handle was so comfortable on the Maverick, that I wanted to use the same philosophy and design a fighter, the bowie. The handle actually came out quite a bit different, but very similar and definitely the same kind of tract. Once I had that drawn, I thought about this group of guys and I knew these knives were going to be a hard sell. All of the points were 'non-bushcrafting' styles. So I took the bowie handle, and put a drop point blade on it.

Now, we have one more. I had so much doubt about the handle shape that I used the Maverick handle to design a drop point. So we have a Drop Point Maverick coming out as well. The Toad is a bigger knife than this one. Especially in the width column. But the handles turned out to all be comfortable, so I'm likely going to keep making both, and see which one really takes y'alls fancy.

This is great, Andy. I look forward to seeing all of them...and grabbing one of the Bowie versions...as well as maybe a Drop Point Toad, when I see one that I just have to have.

Tony
