New Design "Skinny" Camper- Opinions?

Looks great! It's funny how each of your knives have a similar look to them. Even different styles carry a bit of "Laconico" with them.

I've had a bit of time using the knife you made me with 1/8" steel. I have a couple thicker knives for more of the tough stuff, but I'm drawn back to the thinner knife. Nice weight, nice thin edge and an all-around good compromise for the stuff I do with a knife.

Having a lot of time with different Moras and a chance to play with the Koyote in the passaround, I really think that the thinner steel is a worthy contender.

Keep 'em coming! I love seeing all of the new designs you've come up with.

I like the jimping, don't dig the thumb ramp. As far as the micarta cut out below the jimping...if it doesn't interfere with a full grip then I don't see why not. Send it to me so I can give it a feel. :) Although I prefer thicker, 1/8" is fine for a knife this size.

It looks fantastic and positively reinforces your growth not only as a maker, but as a blade designer as well.

That looks great Ray. I like the thumb ramp--I think it gives a little more leverage and a little more protection. The jimping might be a bit heavy for my tastes, but otherwise that looks like an excellent knife. I tend to like the slightly thinner blades as well, 1/8" sounds good to me. Congratulations on making a nice looking knife.

I like that alot. While I do like thin blades as well as thicker ones I would probably like that design to be slightly on the thick side. I really like your knives Ray. Since I seem to be on a 52100 kick right know I was wondering have you ever worked with that steel or plan to?

It looks fabulous! Just one question, about how wide is the Handle across the sides (Ie, how wide are those slabs)

Since I seem to be on a 52100 kick right know I was wondering have you ever worked with that steel or plan to?

I don't use 52100. I've never seen that steel in barstock and since I'm a stock removal maker, I can't use it.

Joezilla, the micarta slabs are 1/4" thick and about 1 1/4" at the widest. It's on the thin side but that's the way I like it.

Take off the thumb ramp/jimping, and I'd say it's perfect! I always thought 1/8" was plenty thick for a knife; even a "hard-use" knife.

Stay sharp,

Look's Great ! I really like It In 1095 1/8" Thick, With the 5" Blade It's perfect for a Camp Knife, Real Nice Design Ray, Are you gonna make a Test Run of these ?

cool looking knife Ray... i like the thumb ramp with the grooves...

What he said. Plus I think thumb ramps and jimping are a metter of taste. Many people dislike the ramp on the Bark River Bravo 1 but I have no problens with it. Quite a few fellows here say that it gets in the way when doing power cuts. As Scott Gossman showed me one time, you'll find you'll get more efficient cuts and better control by using a hammer style grip.

I favor function over form but I think aesthetics are what drives most knifemakers to continue making knives and us junkies to continue to obtain them. So with that in mind I think this knife kicks @$$! or as you NorCal fellas say, that's Hella cool! (am I old?)

i think it looks perfect the way it is. bow drill divots seem to be all the rage lately and might be a neat option but i think you hit a home run with that no frills design.

Thanks again guys!

Snake Dr., I might make these but without the thumb ramp. It seems a lot of people don't want or need it so there's no reason for the extra effort in making it.
