Well,
I was up late getting a headstart on profiling out some knives for the week. While I was grinding I kept seeing a knife in my head! I know, Im sick. Well, its kind of a utility woods design, basic but super comfy handle with no sharp edges. The shining point is the blade, a cross between a willow point and a drop point. I love willow shaped blades but don't see them very often. I think it is the best possible blade for woods use. I will profile it out tonight and see how it looks. My question is, what is your favorite handle shape? I was thinking something like a Kepharts handle but I am open to suggestions.

I am not sure what the shape would be called, but Andy Roy's knife handles are really comfy. I will dig out some of my more comfortable knives and take pictures of the handle shape for you. If you post up the blade profile I would even be willing to try and draw a few of them onto what you start.

Alan, yeah I have a couple of Andys. I was asking more about the shape, coke bottle, round, palm swell, etc. Im thinking a basic continuous curve on the bottom and flat on top. It will be about 9" overall

Ok, here are some that I profiled out. The middle two are Bushcrafters, the last one is a pocket Wharnie, the other smaller weird shape was designed by my wife! The top one is the knife I have been thinking about. I wanted to make a leaf blade with minimalist handle shape with flat butt so you could pound it. I never really can tell how they will work out until handles are on but its suuuuuuuuuuper comfy! We will see. Any thoughts? Will it work? The weird coloring has to be lint. I rubbed them down with a red shop rag before I scanned them...in other words, they aren't cleaned up!

Chris, how'd your second half of the day go today ?????? :D  :D
(You started this, I didn't buddy) . . .
Damn, lost my train of thought . . . . . . . Oh yeah, the second handle down resembles what BA put on my knife, very similar. I could not believe how well that knife worked and was able to be used. Grip was very comfortable, even for my "big paws" . . . .
Be safe.

It does!LMAO. She has seen me trying to come up with a good Nessie design and wanted to try drawing one. It feels pretty damn good in hand. Im gonna flatten the back end a bit but thats it.

You guys suck! Im not even going to let her see this thread, she will be grinding along with me soon!

I like the middle one, the blade looks to have a little more drop at the tip than the one above it. Not sure about
the handle for the top one. Maybe a palm swell or coke bottle, something that will give a good solid grip. Something
that fills the hand but doesn't overfill.

I hear ya IM, I wanted a basic handle shape on this one. Im going to use a thick set of scales, probably 1/2" or so each to fill the hand.

Chris, I've always liked a willow leaf blade. Yours looks to be coming out nicely. You seem to already have a knack for eye-pleasing, comfortable handles and I've no doubt this one will turn out terrific. In my mind's eye I've always pictured one with a handle that begins slightly wider than the blade, then slightly tapers in symetrically to the mid- point, then back out to the butt; in two opposing concave arcs. From their apices, symmetrical convex curves would delineate the butt and the front end of the handle. Some palm swell on the dissecting plane would give some amazing purchase while preserving the versatility of grip choices. I guess a coke bottle with the same size neck as butt Lol, just sticking something into your subconscious there.

Cool Rockywolf! Marcelo, something like this handle shape?

Thats about what I had in mind also. Something that your places your hand in the "sweet spot" of the grip with
just enough of a swell at the back to keep your hand there.

I have two more pieces of steel left before I have to order more. Looks like I will be making a coke bottle Willow too! Marcelo knows his sh@# when it comes to knives guys. Im all ears when he gives me advice or opinions. From seeing his knives for sale and his posts over the last couple of years he has owned a knife from every possible custom maker that makes a woods knife it seems. He and TonyM also judged the Bushcrafters Maker Challenge over in WSS so they know what makes a comfortable working knife. I was proud as heck to have those two buy a few of my first Bushcrafters.

Thanks for the support Alan!
