Bob Dozier has a new and Much better grinder! Making the World's BEST knifemakers Grinder was not enough, he had to come back ande make one so much better and simpler that he could sell it for $1,100 less. Ken Onion bought one at Blade, I have two on order. Bob says that the currant price of $2,500 is only good until October. Talk to Ken or someone else who saw the machine at Blade and get your order in.

I have no interest in this machine, other than getting the ones I have ordered before you get yours. A. G.

I waited and waited all week end to hear a price on this unit from Alicia or Bob. When I talked with Bob last week he couldn't tell me what it would cost. His stand up is like $3K and while I'm sure the $2500 one is very nice I thought it would be less $ than that after speaking with him. That price sounds like its just priced minus the stand though. Whats different about this one A.G. ? Also, how is it $1100 off because his web site prices the big floor unit at $2995?

I hope Bob posts some pics of it on his web site here soon though> I would like to see it.

Sorry, I thought that he was charging $3600 for the complete machine he has been selling for several years.

This new machine is altogather new, not at all like the "big" machine. Compare this one to ANY machine made and you will find it worth the money. A. G.

Hope he's replaced the pneumatic ram belt tensioner though , dont like that idea, you need an air supply to keep your belt tensioned? i think i'll keep the old fashioned spring on my home made grinder. just my 2 cents.:)

This means that you have never experinced the advantage of completely variable belt tension. Try it, you will like it.

I saw it at blade and was blown away. Really neat machine. And a great guy to talk to also.

I saw it at Blade also, but wasn't overly impressed.IMHO the pneumatic tensioner is a poor design and isn't needed.Burr-Kings have variable tension adjustment without having to add a compressor to the list.To each his own I guess. Dave:)

You need a compressor to push the belt tensioner. Yikes...........

That wouldn't work late at night in my home. I want something that hummmmmmms along.

I'll give him credit though, it looks like the Hummer of belt grinders.

Dave,

I do not know how you can work without a compressor and if you care about your health, an exhaust system. I left hard wheels in 1968 when Bob Loveless turned me on to the Wilton Square Wheel grinder, moved to the Burr-King, then the Bader (two sizes) and various developmental models of Doziers. I now own 5 Dozier grinders, including the one pictured. Yes Bob Dozier is a friend of mine, but, if you think I would lie about his grinder then you do not want to read any further. If I knew of a better grinder I would buy it instead of Doziers.

The Dozier grinder is STIFFER than the Bader, you cannot flex it. The Dozier grinder is the only grinder that I know of that allows you to see your work when you are belting (sanding rather than grinding) your knife handles.

Talk to knifemakers like Steve Schwarzer, Wayne Hendrix, Ken Onion, other knifemakers (part time and full time) companies like Queen, SOG or myself who have paid the high price and recognize the value of really well thought out and well made equipment for making knives.

The air adjustment is really important for the belting operation and if you learn to belt you can save time and time is your living when making knives.

If I remember Right, Bob told me you could use a bicycle pump to charge the air cylinder.
Bicyle pump,$7.95 all day ever day at Walmart :D

Hi A.G.,
Could you comment on how the new Dozier compares to the KMG in terms of stiffness, and visualizing the work area. Just curious, always interesting to see new tools and ideas.

Thanks, Craig

Sorry Craig,

I can talk about the Square Wheel, the Bader, the Burr-King, I have used them all, I do not think I have ever seen the KMG. You need to ask someone who has seen both. Better yet, someone who has used both.

The very best way is to make an appointment with Dozier and spend a few hours in his shop and let him show you how the machine works and what it does.

all the best, A. G.
