For a while now I have been looking for a better way to clamp material to my drill press table. My press has a large T-slot table, and I had not had much luck finding a quick & easy method for securing things to it. I had been using Irwin 18" Quick-Grip bar clamps at the edge of the table, but these did not work well for the application.
Last Monday, my {2 year old} daughter and I drove up to Bellingham to visit the Grizzly store.
I wanted to pick up a couple of granite surface plates and decided that the hour-long drive would end up saving me about $100 in shipping. While there I saw these QUICK RELEASE DRILL PRESS CLAMPS.
They appeared to be exactly what I was looking for, with the exception that they would not work with my T-slot table. I picked a couple up anyway, and today I modified them for my setup.
First, I cut the rings off the eye-nuts using my bandsaw. Then I ground the nut to fit in the T-slots as shown below.
This seems to have worked pretty slick. It took me maybe 15-minutes to modify two clamps, and I'm happy with the results.
There's probably something that you can buy off-the-shelf that'll do the exact same thing... but if, like me, you can't find it, maybe this will help you out.
