hello people,

I'm looking for my new EDC. I'm going to try and do a poll but it might not work so please just leave a comment with your vote if it doesn't work.

1. Benchmade griptillian

2. Spyderco Para2

3. Benchmade 710

4. Benchmade 950 rift

5. Wait for the ESEE Izula folder

6. none of the above

My main use will be Light EDC tasks and maybe some wood work (traps, stakes, spears, ECT).

I'd pick Spyderco Para2.
Benchmade griptillian - I personally don't like tip-up carry, but otherwise would be my #2 pick.
Benchmade 710 - not as easy to open single handed as griptillian for me.
Benchmade 950 rift - the tip is not as sharp as all of the above.
ESEE Izula folder - no idea about it.

These are my personal preferences, YMMV.

Do you have any more preferences? Steels? Blade length? Durability?

As far as steel goes I don't really care. I would like it to be very durable as i tend to be harder on my knives especially folders. blade length maybe somewhere around 3 or 4 inches. and weight I would rather was under 5 oz.

Para2 is fine, just a bit bulky for my tastes....and its size belies its featherweight feel.

I'll go with 6. None of the above.

Have you thought about the Zero Tolerance 0801 or the 0560? Good, durable hard use folders that are fine for EDC (I have an 0801 in my pocket right now), but are also quite useful in the field (I've cut saplings down with my 0560).

I have a rift and its ok, wouldn't be my go to knife. I am a huge fan of ZT and and so many of their knives, the 801 is a great edc knife have a look at it and see if it fits your criteria

My top choice from that list would be the 710 for it's excellent blade-to-handle ratio and compact carry. Para 2 would come next, followed by the Rift and Griptilian. The Izula folder I put in the realm of admantium knives and lightsabers. It should be great, if we ever get one.

I have looked in the past, but i will look into them again. thanks

I know me too. Man I would love to have one.

I put lots of use into my 801 the only reason its not in my pocket now is I sent it out for some custom anodizing. Another ZT thats making some serious waves right now is the 566, I ordered one but its not here yet so I can't speak on it personally but the reviews have been really good for it.

Aren't ZT knives really heavy? I'm looking for 50oz and under for edc.

Picked up a Grippie in D2 at Cabella's the other day. Much prefer that steel over CM154. Brilliant engineering (including the Axis lock), very ergonomic, light, tough as heck... the 710 is another M classic, but heavy.

Of the ones you have listed, I like the Griptilian most.

Around the same size range as the ones you have listed, you might also consider:
- ZT 0566 - I just picked up one of these recently, and it is an amazing knife. It's just a tad over 5 oz, but it carries much more comfortably than the Grip, Para2, and 710. In hand, you get what you'd expect from a ZT - a very solid, robust feeling knife that seems ready to take on whatever use and abuse you can dish out.
- Benchmade 940 - Slim and light, yet packs a 3.4" blade. If you prefer a drop point to sheepsfoot blade, there's also the 943.
- Kershaw Blur - One of the Kershaw mainstays, and for good reason. Available in S30V and CPM154 (although the latter are getting harder to find), if you want something with a bit more wear resistance than 14C28N (which is already a great blade steel)
