New edge on my Strider RCC...pictures

My new Strider RCC is built like a bank vault and rock solid but was about as sharp as a crow bar! They ground the edge pretty blunt and I decided to buy a Lansky sharpener to see if it would help get a nice 20 degree angle on it. I had to remove a lot of steel at the edge to thin it out and bring the bevel up a bunch.
I took my 3 hours per side but the Lansky did a good job and made a nice even bevel. Not sure how it happened but on one side of the blade the bevel is a little bit higher then the other side even though I used the same 20 degree angle.
The blade is now like a razor and will shave nicely! Here is a couple pictures before resharpening with the Lansky:

And here is how it turned out after using the Lansky:

I usually free hand sharpen but when I need to remove a lot of steel to fix and edge I like a guided sharpener so I can watch TV and not concentrate on holding the correct angle.

that looks good! im terrible with my lansky it just feels too clunky and i prefer the zen of a good stop! haha. its funny though, i ALWAYS get a just slightly higher grind using the lansky too. is it us? or them?

That rebevel job looks nice:thumbup:. Thanks for sharing the pics.

Crud!
The other side somehow ended up a little bit higher even though I used the it the same way as the other side. It still looks good and is now extreemly sharp easily shaving hair.

Nice job! I had to do the same thing with my RCC. When I first got her I tried to get a little butter out of the dish for my toast. The butter cleaned the RCC's clock.

Took me about a hour on the Edge pro to rebevel the knife. That recurve was a beast to work with. Now I've got her so that I can touch her up on the Sharpmaker and have her shaving in no time.

Sweet. I'm doing the same thing to a Kershaw Outcast currently on my EdgePro. And I usually stop after the 110 grit stones as I kinda like seeing the grind marks on most of my stuff. But then I microbevel it on my Sharpmaker 15 degree setting and ultra fine stones.

Reminds me of what Cliffy used to comment on, why have a knife with a super steel with an un-optimized cutting edge? Seems counter productive.

Nice job. Noticed the Citizen watch. What model is that. I ask because I use a Lansky, wear a Citizen watch and re-bevel many of my knives. Wondering if I'm now posting in my sleep.:p

Ha, Ha, Ha!
It's one oof their dive watches. I'll see if I can get a pic of it.

Thanks guys!!!

nice job...good clean bevel.

as to the slightly wider bevel on one side...this is can be caused by a slightly uneven grind, and when you are using an exact bevel on both sides, you can see it. when you freehand, it is not obvious because you naturally compensate for it.
