New Edge Pro

Where did you get your lapping film. I have been looking on line with very little luck so far

Tools For Working Wood online has 3M PSA backed (they stick, with better hold than the lapping film in grits as fine a 1 micron and .3 micron, and they are $2 a piece for 8.5"x11" shaeets. The 6000 grit Edge Pro tapes are 1 micron for reference. I also get .05 micron PSA backed lapping film from PSI Dragon online, but they are $4 each plus shipping, but if you absolutely need the most polished edge possible they do work.

Got my new Edge Pro#4 last night. And this morning was trying to put a edge on an old Anza knife that I had and the #120 stone, the 1st one, falls off from the ALUMINUM base that it is attached to. I e-mailed Edge-Pro this morning. We will see what happens.

But wondering, I only have had this system for a few hrs. and already I have to call the company? And it has broken? Not good. :(

Damn..I don't think that's typical. Ben apparently attaches his stones to the aluminum base using 3M 77 spray adhesive, if for some reason you want to reattach it yourself. I hope Ben helps fix things quickly for you.

I didn't get an e-mail so I called and a lady said just the same thing you did. So I went down to Home Dept. and bought some 3M 77 spray. Thanks Blade. :)

I got an e-mail from Ben and he said the same thing. And he gave me some good tips. :)

Here's edge number two. A bit of a learning curve, but it's coming to me quickly!

Bonus points if you can name the book.

Nerd points, that is...

i see the zaxbys napkins in the background.. i LOVE zaxbys. where do you live. wish i could afford the edge pro but i cant justify the purchase over some thing like a benchmade943 or microtech utx 70

Zaxby's is The Heat!

Northwest Atlanta, outside the perimeter.

I can't in good conscience recommend the Apex4 just yet, since I've only used it a few times and the edges I can achieve don't yet merit the price tag. I'm sure it'll come with time, though.

Took this just a few mins ago, had to really blow it up or the hair wouldn't have shown up it's so fine. This is just with the 6000 grit tapes and mothers.

The hair is .0012" thick

Very nice, that hair looks as fine as my Daughter's hair, I have to hold her hair up the the light just to see it. When I can whittle her hair easily and get to where the knife severs it more often than whittling it then I know my knife is really sharp.

Yes, exactly, you can't really see it at all unless you hold it up to the light.

Yeah I really had to be careful not to cut it, as it would cut it more than split.

Oh, I thought that hair whittling sharp was sharper than hair severing sharp. No wonder I sometimes have a doozy of a time whittling fine hairs. I thought my knife wasn't sharp enough when they cut instead of split. :p

That's what I was wondering heh, just saw "Ash" and took a guess. Not a big fiction reader myself and totally not sci-fi or fantasy.

It kind of works both ways. You get hair splitting sharp, then proceed to hair whittling sharp, then you get beyond hair whittling sharp. At beyond hair whittling sharp if you aren't very careful the hair will sever as soon as it touches the edge, making it difficult to peel curls of hair. Then if you get beyond that sharp your name must be Ankerson!

Yeah, I agree. :D
