i just got an old hot cut chisel(im pretty sure thats what its called) at a flea market. it needs a new handle and the chisel end fixed. the handle is no problem. the chisel end is another mater. its got a decent sized chip that has to be ground out. it would take me forever to file it. if i keep it cool and go slowly while i reshape it as long as it dont get hot the temper should be fine right? if i end up having to retemper it could i do it this way?: after the end is shaped correctly heat it to non- mag. water quench the first inch wait a few seconds for it to cool some and then quench the rest. this is what i read in a book on smithing.will this work ok. and is using water to quench ok since its thick or should i still use oil? last quest. when i reshape the tip should it be straight along the cutting edge? right now as it is other than the chip it has verry rounded off corners to the point its shaped in a u shape. its about 1 inch wide at the end and weighs 3-4 lbs. i know this is alot of info but i just wanted to make sure to give you all the info i could.... thanks a whole, whole, whoooollleeee lot!!!,willy
