Well, I bought three more EnZo Trapper blades in O1 from BensBackwoods and I received some super-fine burls from Bad Dog Burl Source. I thought some of you guys might like to see this wood before it's cut up and glued onto some knives.

Here's the pile of wood and EnZos. Myrtle burl is the big, brown block and the buckeye burl is the big one on the bottom left.

Here's the pile without blades blocking the view :D

Check out this buckeye and black ash!!!

Here are some black ash burl scales. About 5" long.

And here are some Australian Malle burl and Teak burl blocks that Bad Dog Burls threw in for free!

I found a way to stabilize this wood using Google. After it rests in the shop for a week or so, I'll stabilize it and glue some scales on! Then I'll post some more pictures.

Post some EnZo pics guys, or ANY pics of nice burl scales!. I'm itching for inspiration and to get started!

Thanks for looking.

Alright man, good stuff. Looks like you're gonna have a good weekend soon enough!

And how did I know who authored the thread after having only seen the title... :D

Looking forward to seeing the product. Be sure to take pics of the different steps!

I wish I had an Enzo to post. I've been trying to buy a blank for a while but some guy from NM seems to beat me to them. ;)

Here's a quick shot of the scales I think I'm going to use when I finally find one.

That is gorgeous wood. Now I know who to blame for Enzos always being out of stock. :)

I can't help it Spooky and Wood, I LOVE working on these Enzo blades!! I don;t think it's the knife so much as it is the work!

Hey KGD, I have this "tutorial" with step-by-step pics that I email out sometimes. It's 2MB in a Word doc file and you're welcome to it. Now.... I have to be clear... I've only done about 6 of these, or so, so I'm no expert and I don;t claim to be! But!: it kinda shows some guys what I do anyway and maybe save them a headache or two that I already went through. It's kind of fun too, documenting it, it's like an extension of the job....maybe.

Thanks for looking guys! (truth be known...that's probably the best part ((( :D ))) )

Blackhills, I'm going to take a guess...... black ash burl dyed green? Those are beautiful! I might try to dye one or two of these scales. Sorry I'm snatching these EnZos up so quick, but I have an idea or two:
- you can also try ThomsponsKnives.com and look for "A Cut Above Knifemaking Supplies" on ebay. I KNOW Thompsons has the Trapper (in D2) and A Cut Above has a damascus Trapper Kit that I'm really thinking hard about, so......... ((( :D ))) Man, those green scales would look good on a damascus Trapper !!!!!

Stingray, the website is: www.burlsource.com Check them out!

I have been following your Enzo postings with interest. Might you be willing to part with one of your new creations??

By the way, the last time I was through Alamagordo, NM was years ago heading to the Golden Aspen motorcycle rally. Had to spend a day at a local m/c shop waiting for tire to be shipped (on its own seat on the bus no less!) from Las Cruces. A day I wont forget--also got stopped crossing the missile firing range while Uncle Sam tested some stuff:D

When my wife and I married, we honeymooned in Ruidoso. We weren;t thinking though, it was right in the middle of the AspenCade!!!! We looked for an hour before finding a room.... the motel mgr took pity on us and gave us a super-nice room for cheap (that we couldn;t afford otherwise)! Heck, you couldn;t even find a spot alongside the highway if you wanted to pull over and sleep in the truck!

I never sold one azranger and never intended to. I mean, I probably wood (<-- fits in this thread) but I'd sure feel a little guilty. They're EnZo blades after all! I gave all of them away to friends and co-workers so far, except for a green micarta Trapper and an ebony Elver that I'm keeping around.....
I'd consider it.

Black hills, I did one w/ the same wood dyed black, and it turned out great. Got lots of comments. If you like the green go for it.

They're Box Elder burl. I know it's not as traditional but I do like the dyed burl, in particular green...I love the way it looks.

Thanks for the heads up, I've looked at both of those places as well. It seems like when they have what I want I don't have the extra $ and vice versa. I don't really want D2 though I've been tempted....so far I've resisted. :D I saw that damascus one, it is very pretty but I just don't want to spend that much.

Good story on the "no room at the inn". Glad you found a place. I "used" to know the folks that put on those rallies, so I always had a place.

Anyway, I am sure interested in seeing the outcome of the Enzos and burl. I like Scandi knives and have a bunch or Moras, but always felt a little sheepish about not having a full tang--maybe just me. Just found out about the Enzos and they look sturdier. Do they still cut well?

The Scandi grind has taken top honors over the convex for me. Every person that I gave a knife to never had a Scandi grind before. To people who like knives but are not really used to seeing knives other than Benchmade, Spyderco, Kershaw, Buck, etc, a scandi grind looks fake to them. You know what I mean. Anyway...... every person I gave an EnXo to has commented to me, more than once, how impressed they are with their knives! They'll even admit to some trepidation when they first got them.

But to your question: they cut like crazy and I'm able to get them finicky sharp! THat's whay I like them so much. The EnZo blanks are stout, a full 1/8". I don't think I could break one. Come to think of it, the Elver is a nice one too! D2, which hurts my feelings, but I surprised myself in sharpening it one day.....I got it scary sharp!
