New ESEE 6

The 6 is THE BEST OF THE LINE UP you just have to figure out the finer points of refinement.:eek:
I love the 66666666666. Its the Best.

Cool, happy to see you got a 6, there isnt a better choice on the entire knife market!

Although they are great, please take caution with the sheaths. The tec lok backs that hold the knife on your belt have 4 screws that seem to back out pretty easily. It you tighten them up to far it flexes the sheath and you cant get the knife in and out properly, you tighten them to loose you will loose the screws and possibly your knife.
Unfortunitally i almost lost my knife while on a 4 day hiking trip last summer in northern WI because 2 of the 4 screws backed themselves out and by the time i noticed only one of the tec loks was holding my sheath to my belt. I would suggest you use lock tite on the screws to help ensure they stay secure. Overall great sheath, just way on the side of caution and use lock tite on the screws.

Im actually getting a leather sheath from JRE industries for my 6. Not because its a bad sheath, but because i put a big crack in it after being thrown from a young horse and landing on it.

I found out the max blade length for TX is 5.5" OOPS!! Too bad... I love this knife. It carries/handles "smaller" than any any big knife I've ever used. Time to march on Austin I guess. LOL!!

I'm not a lawyer :) but I believe it is OK in Texas to have a longer blade or even a machete if the person "is engaging in lawful hunting, fishing, or other sporting activity on the immediate premises where the activity is conducted". In other words, you should be fine using the 6 on an outing in the woods camping/hunting etc., but don't wear it into the grocery store, and don't keep it in your car all the time :).

Question: does anyone know if these laws are actually enforced? I know in Alabama we have some knife laws that are not enforced and most cops don't even know the law themselves. The law is more used to nail you later in court if you're being an asshole but if you're not bothering anyone or being a smartass no one even cares if you're carrying an automatic or some "illegal" blade length. At least that's been my experience.

I agree, I think it's more of a "bonus charge" if you're being a jerk, or got in serious trouble.

That said, I follow these personal rules in what I carry;

Does it LOOK like a "killing knife", and do I have a legitimate reason for carrying it? By LOOK like a "killing knife" I mean if I'm in court and a prosecutor shows pictures of the knife and/or the knife/brand website..will there be skulls, blood, self defense claims, "aggressive serrations", penetration statistics etc?...if so that would be bad for me. I'd rather have to explain a $20 Buck Vantage.

And by legitimate reason..it means just that...can I rationally explain why I'm carrying something. "Rational" many times doesn't translate well to many people though.

That's just me and my paranoid self..in reality I'll probably never use a knife to defend myself. I think blunt force to the face and crotch is my best bet.

For the most part no, but it's not a certainty. Some of the city ordinances are plain stupid too. In San Antonio a locking blade is technically illegal. They were really designed to give LEO's a reason initiate hassling probable dirtbags and such. Problem is occasionally one cop having a bad day may decide to give another otherwise law abiding citizen a bad day as well. So you can't bank on common sense anymore like back in the day. Kind of like the zero tolerance crap in schools, but that's another whole ball of wax.

I don't know anyone personally who has been charged with carrying a knife over 5 1/2", but I've seen posts on other forums by officers who stated they had arrested individuals for it, and I've seen some court summaries where the court was enforcing the judgement even though the blade in question was only something like 1/4" over the limit :( .

No foul implied. I don't post much so it's difficult to type the way I talk. More of a reader here. I do enjoy this forum. Thanx again for all the input folks.

Didn't take it the wrong way. Appreciate you being here. Most folks from Texas can't even type so you are one-up on them!

yeah...dumb ass texans....jk....your gonna love the 6...its the only one left in the lineup left for me to get....i have handled them and love em...
