new fakes, alert (various new entries..)

Upon close examination I can see that the inlays are not inset into the scale, rather they look like they are just glued to the scale. It is really apparent on the first camel bone pic. Even on the bloodwood you can see the glue they used at the end of one of the inlays. Still, it is scary real.

Is there some sort of ban on importing knives into China? Or is it just American made knives? For them to jack up the price on a legitimate CRK to the point where one could get a car or a knife just seems foreign to me.

Anything that could be considered luxury goods have a huge import tax or just get huge asking prices. It matters not where the item comes from.

That should be easy enough to fake, but what's scary to me is the fake paperwork they seem to be including (first pic). What's next...hologrammed seal?

No, they are inset in the scale and as far as I know they use double sided tape to stick them on, although the inlays are taller than normal.

How do you "verify" an Umnum (or other CRK) you buy from a private citizen? The bill of sale and/or could be forged/faked pretty easily. Do CRK's carry a serial number that can be verified? Does PayPal "protect" you in any way during or after a transaction if you just bought a fake?

I've heard of people sending pictures to CRK for their opinion. It's hard over the Internet to be 100% sure, though, which is why these threads help.

As for Paypal: https://cms.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/?cmd=_render-content&content_ID=security/safe_online_shopping shows receiving counterfeit goods is a reason to file a dispute, but you have to file before 45 days.

CRKs don't generally have serial numbers. The inside of the slab has a date code and the blade has a letter representing the steel type, but neither is unique to one knife. Still, it would seem unnecessary for a fake to copy that aspect, since it won't show up in a picture.

I have yet to see a fake Umnumzaan and the fake Sebenzas I have seen would not get past someone familiour with CRK, even the "good" ones. There are a number of things to look out for but it's the little details that you can pick up on very quickly. Things like machining marks, the consistency and over all quality of the machining, the anodising colours, the lock bar heat treat, the overall shape of the knife and so far the packaging are all give aways.

I realise that people that aren't acquainted with machining and finishing may not know what to look for. Those that don't have a real CRK to put a fake one next to would also perhaps have problems seeing what is there but that is exactly why we need these threads, IMO.

If one has any doubts ask CRK and/or ask here, we are all looking out for eachother. :)

ooo you guys are paying too much for these, I can get them for 10-20 bucks a peice. their great! they cut just as well as the real thing but are a lot cheaper. lock up is fine, no visible blade play at all. sure I dont hammer my knifes thru wood but i doubt the real thing would survive any better.

These fake knives are not great, the one I tested was far from being comparable to a CRK.
