New Fighting Tomahawk Designs

The FAQ's mention both a 'training rig' and a 'full rig', so I would assume the latter is for real-life carry...

So what's the difference?

For further questions on the training rig - please post on the sayoc.com site or start a different thread.

Thanks.

Well Hell ! The PDF started working today,......I fully understand your rationale for that "Training" rig. It does allow one to experiment with all the options both concealed and non-concealed. The back carry is really interesting.

Wasn't this thread about tomahawks?
Isn't this forum about axes, tomahawks and hatchets?

Just sayin'... OK?

Those are probably some of the most wicked looking hawks I've ever seen. Good choice on the steel too. Probably 5 or 6 times removed from my price range, but they sure are sweet!

Daniel & Raphael :
Again, really good job and great contribution. After the dust settles on Christmas shopping and tax time, I plan to pick one up.

Given the amount of contention in this thread it probably would have been better to start a new one. However after reading it over I do have a couple questions.

The first being, does anyone have one of these hawks, and if so, what do you think about it?

The second being, has anyone heard anything more about the Sayoc hawk DVD that was mentioned?

As a veteran of the Army I must say that a lot of what bubba says rings true. Granted those hawks are beautiful quite a bit out of my price range but very nicely done.

Combat application, that might be taking it a little too far. Who wants to carry a tomahawk in the desert who you have to lug around a SAW and ammo? You know what I'm saying.....

I have carried mine for just under a year now and have been very pleased with it! I think that it is an excellent design in which a lot of thought has been given. Also, I don't feel that it is item which I've had to 'lug' around, being relatively light and unobtrusive.

I have use my knife in defensive situation before. But recently I used my tomahawk in a life and death situation during a raid on a safe house in the southern part of the country. We wear tipped off about suspicions activities going on in a large house in a upper class neighborhood, the report said that several men whit military uniforms and riffles wear going in and out of the house during the night.

We set up near the house and got the go ahead to enter the house after we got some much needed back up by the Mexican military, once inside most of the almost 11 armed narcos gave themselves up whit out a struggle. We went ahead and cleared the entire house, when we heard one of our guys screaming over the radio for back up. One of the bad guys was hiding in one of the balconies and tried to wrestle the shotgun away from my team mate.

When I arrived to help out, I realized that my friend was struggling to pull out his hand gun from his leg holster, and I pull out my tomahawk and hit the bad guy in the shoulder (he was wearing body armor) the spike on my hawk went right trough the Kevlar and cut his shoulder badly, he immediately stopped fighting and had to be sent to the hospital for stitches. I would have shot him but felt that I might have hit my friend in the struggle. The bastard will live. My friend was alright, but a bit shaken from the whole ordeal. Turns out his leg holster was new and he hadn’t gotten used to it yet. Almost cost him his life. I took these pictures of the vest the idiot was wearing whit my cell phone.

I just weighed my load out gear for Excutive protection and combat. I changed some things around and am now lighter due to a knife change, flash light change and pack change. So I wouldn't say weight means as much as people say its to relative.

Now how its carried does and the Sayoc offers both belt and Molle carry AND with its weight being toward the head, it feels easier to carry because most of the weight is at the head, and this is where the Sayoc is retained to your body or gear.

Hey Bubba...r u a Pekiti Tirsia boy? You're posts are a little silly. Tuhon would be pissed dude.

So what I am reading that this hawk is either a issued piece of equipment or given to them by donations. Due the spend their own money for these hawks. I have had the honor to work with some Tier 1 units. I have seen these guys carry anything from Cold Steel to very expensive knives. Some may use their own money, but alot use what is given to them. I have trained in the Filipino arts for about 30 yers now and have been in LE for the same amount of time. My personal opinion is what ever is given to them to make their job easier or scare the enemy is a good thing. Great work Winkler and the Sayoc guys.

Cheers
