  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

New fisher looking for gear advice

I did a little shopping and just put together a basic light to medium fresh water kit for bluegill, $60 total.

The only real killer deal was the reel, I scored it at a flea market for $8. But, the Daiwa 208 closed face bait casting reel is a serious underdog and excellent performing little reel that can be had for cheap on ebay. They cast exceptionally well, have great capacity, work well for small surf fish too. The rod is a 5'6" Field & Stream branded rod I just picked up from Dick's for $24.99. Floats were $2.99/pack, split shot pack was $3.99, line was on sale for $7.99, hooks were $3.99 (cheap eagle claw bait holding hooks work fine, I just like Gamakutsu hooks). A pack of night crawlers is all I need and I'm ready to go. With your budget you can add all the little bits like pliers, clippers, tackle box, etc. I put this together so I would have a rig just like my 5 year old sons because he really likes having stuff like his dad. Also because I really liked his set up too, lol!

So, having a good kit isn't all about new and expensive gear, but finding all the gear you need for the money you have.
