New Fishing Knives Suggestions

I always carry my bright yellow Ritter Grip. A little pricey, but you could get the normal grip. Bright if you drop it. Easy, fast deploy. Nice thin blade. My go to fishing knife.

Just got a Buck fillet knife. Pretty nice for just over $20.

I looked at the new line of buck knives for fishing and seems they did a good job on them but I will probably be getting the Moras. To me, from all I've read, the money seems better spent toward a couple of those. For a fishing knife I dont want to spend a whole heck of a lot on it because there is that chance I could lose it on the river, over the side of the boat, etc. Plus, any money I save on this I can put toward my other knives on the list!

Spyderco Aqua Salt has been on my list for a while now.

I like those as well, the fixed and folder versions. But for now it will be a couple of new Moras. Thanks for all the info. When I get them in I will try and get some pics posted. Gotta find my camera first though...

Fishing knife for rivers and streams....

I think a SAK similar to my Adventurer is quite useful. The One Handed Trekker would also be quite useful. Your choice whether you want the main blade serrated or plain edge. I prefer the plain edge. You seldom need any serious tools when fishing, but there are times you do need a screw driver, tweezers (got to have the tweezers), awl comes in handy at times, and a few other swiss tools. For me, the blade is seldom used for cutting line unless it is major surgery. Clippers work best for this purpose. A SAK Farmer would also be useful.

Your Spydie Moran is a great little knife.

A small fixed blade... neck knife would be useful and handy to get to which is where I would go with a fixed blade versus a folder. I would prefer a kydex sheath since I do sometimes "fall in" slipping on rocks and so forth. The Dozier Canoe comes to mind as a great choice and not real expensive for a custom. If off the beaten trail a lot, I would tend to want a larger fixed blade with me, but it would almost never be used.

Looked at that One Handed Trekker and I really like the looks of it. I have a Manager that I edc for work. So I will definitely be checking that one out. Just one more knife to add to my purchase list at the top.

The only thing about the Moran is I am debating on saving it to give to Dad for Father's Day which is why I haven't used it yet.

I often see the One Handed Trekker listed at the online knife places but usually with the serrated main blade. That is the way it's listed at the SAK web site. Smokey Mt. Knife Works sells it plain edged with either camo or traditional red scales. I have the camo as the red one was not available at the time. You could even attach the SAK to a lanyard and hang it around your neck or attach to a vest if you wear one.

That is true. I found a plain edge on amazon as well. I'm not big on serrated blades. They are pain to sharpen (not the greatest at sharpening anyway) and normally they don't get used that much. Besides, SAK scissors are some of the toughest I've seen and with those you don't need the serrations. Or at least I can't think of a good reason for them.

I used to run a lot of Cat5 cable and I've cut tons of that as well as a lot of other types of wire with the scissors and they keep on going. So they are a good value for what you get.
