I don't post much anymore but still lurk and knew you guys would have some good info. I am interested in replacing my EDC flashlight, a fenix P2D, and was wondering what the new hotness is? Looking for a single 123 or perhaps even a 1 AA if yall give it a high enough review. My light will be used as much in town as in the woods but I want something I can count on when the balloon goes up, really, price is no object but I am not willing to spend bundles on name alone, the performance has to equal the price.

So whats up? What does everyone carry? Thanks in advance, Chris

Check out the Zebralight SC30w and SC50w. A bit small for me(and I lost a SC30w), but hard to beat in a single cell handheld. The UI is like their newer headlamp models, with multiple modes accessible at turn-on, and extra modes easily accessed or ignored. Quality of construction, materials, and ano are higher than lights from other Chinese manufacturers, and most models are available in "w" versions with neutral emitters.

check out the new streamlight pt 1l. I was at the spyderco outlet store the other day, and the streamlight rep was in there showing the manager their new products including the pt 2l and 1l both felt good, were tiny, and put out an amazing amount of light.

The one below is good for 1100+ lumens for 2 hour runtime.

Oveready Custom Surefire orange 9P+Extension
Moddoo Triple Head

So, what's wrong with your P2D? I favor 1AA designs and they're plenty bright now. I also like multi-level designs. I've carried a L1D for a while now and have considered a LD10.

i recently bought a pair of Romsen RC-G2 AA powered lights from DealXtreme for about $12 each including shipping.

IIRC, it's 140 lumens and runs on a single AA. has a momentary/constant switch and was supposed to have a pocket clip, but didn't come with one.

ok, it's NOT a Surefire, Quark or Fenix... but for a fraction of the price you can have several very decent lights and leave one in the center console or glovebox of your vehicles, one in your desk drawer at work, one in your paypack or briefcase, one on the nightstand.

i haven't killed the batteries i put in them yet.

only negatives are no pocket clip, and no levels... so it's overkill for reading a menu in a dimly lit restaurant.

it's not "the hotness", but it is a good value.

i'm still planning on getting something from Fenix or whatever. prefer AA for EDC

Another vote for the zebralight sc50. I've got the warm white version (sc50w). Beautiful beam, built-like-a-tank construction, small size, intuitive/easy to use interface, great run-time on an eneloop.

Those HDS lights look like they might get the nod, no one using 4 sevens lights? No long term review? I remember a year or so ago those were getting rave reviews.

Nothing at all wrong wrong with my fenix, was, and is a great light. I really have two nice flashlights that I use a lot, my fenix and an Inova, don't remember the model. I want to replace the Inova with a modern more efficient light that is smaller with mutiple brightness settings, the fenix isn't going to get tossed by any stretch, still gonna be on my belt next to my wave everyday. The Inova on my pack strap is probably gonna go into the drawer by the fridge though. :D Chris

Hear you on the value bought one of the target brand AA led lights, river rock brand maybe, great light for the money. My mom wanted it for her purse so of course I gave it to her. There are a lot of decent lights available right now but I really want multiple settings, it is really nice to be able to adjust the light for what you need it for. Chris

Mine was dead in a week. (edit: was looking at a post of mine on CPF-my mistake, it lasted TWO weeks) What do you consider long-term?

4sevens mini 123 Ti. I have been using it for a year, but without long runtimes at the higher output. With outputs of 3, 40, and 189 lums, it pretty well covers the gambit. How about a SF A2 - one of my favorites. I have also been looking at the new Zebralight straight bodies. I have one of the 90 degree. Since you are already in Korea, I would take a good look at the Jil Lites.

no argument on the usefulness of the settings... like i mentioned, 140 lumens is no good for reading a menu.

have a $10 Rock River half Watt, AAA light. it's stuck in a drawer. it was cheap, but just didn't do enough.

but i do afree completely that having levels is nice... which is why some Fenix lights are still on the list.

My EDC flashlight is a Surefire E1B Backup. It uses a single CR123.

The one thing I don't like about the E1B is that it is a little too fat to carry in the front pocket of a pair of jeans if the jeans are a bit tight. For those situations, I really should get something that uses a holster, or make do with a AAA based flashlight like the Fenix E01. Or maybe I should just get a holster for the E1B, although that would probably have to be a custom deal.
