New flashlight?

I have a Energizer light from Target that takes 1AA, is single mode, and has a clicky switch, and a pocket clip for $15. I have more expensive lights but carry this one most because of the clip. It is also cheap enough I don't worry much about losing it. It is bright enough for most things and has pretty good run time on a rechargeable. The pocket clip is also oriented so I can clip it to the bill of my hat and be able to use both hands which comes in really handy.

I'm with Hung on this. AAA's are really only good for a backup IMO, or if you want it on a keychain. I edc my 4sevens Ti Qmini123 (on me now) or my Nitecore D10(AA).

I think I have decided to go with a Fenix PD30 R5. Do you all think that this light would be too big to clip in my back pocket?

acidoveride that's a very nice choice, personally i like the single cell version. i don't keep any lights in my back pocket, but i'm sure it'll fit.

4sevens Preon
single AAA

I carry my surefire E1B Backup everywhere all the time, on duty and off. In jeans, I clip it into my left rear pocket next to my wallet and I don't even notice it's there. It has a dual output LED and has served many a warrant with me and is just plain useful to have! 110 lumens/5 lumens in low output mode. 4 inches long and weighs under 3 ounces with battery. People make fun of me for having a light on me all the time...until they have to serve a warrant and I'm the only guy with a light! Lol.

A 2AA flashlight like the pd30 in my back pocket would drive me nuts personally. I switched from carrying a 2AA quark front left to a 1AA quark because the restriction of movement wasn't worth the extra brightness to me. Since the 1AA rides fairly high, it leaves plenty of room in the bottom of the pocket for cigarettes and such.

PD30/20 are CR123 powered. So it would be shorter but fatter than a light that uses "AA". I'm thinking the shorter pd20 with a clip would do fine in a front pocket. but it sounds like he wants a 2 battery form factor, which would drive me nuts in my front pocket.

i had the quark AA2 but it was a tad long so i gave that to my cousin 2 years ago and bought a CR123-2 Quark. shorter but a little fatter. Very nice light.

How about a Surefire Backup... ....1 cr123 it's pretty small, has 2 settings if I remember correctly.

A fellow forumite gifted a Streamlight microstream to me, great light, been carrying it ever since. Takes 1 AAA.

This , or the Maratac AAA. Rides perfectly in my 5th pocket. oh but.. you don't have a 5th pocket !! :p

My fifth pocket carries my lighter. Ive been carrying the streamlight microstream i forgot i had the last couple days and it works pretty well. I still think im going to pick up a brighter light though.

I was using an EO1 on a keychain. It wasn't worth the 12 bucks. Just didn't provide enough light. I purchased an LD01 and with 80 lumens and 3 settings, I couldn't be happier. Sits on my keychain and I don't have to make pocket space for my Surefire E2D anymore.

UPDATE:

I went with the Fenix PD30 It's awesome. I carry it clipped in my left front pocket. It's a good size and very bright. I've carried it for about a month and use it everyday. I haven't needed to change the batteries so far, it's still nice and bright still.

Maybe you can make a deal with the missus and wear carpenter jeans? Same setup as the carhartts but in denim, if you decide that you ever need more space.

Chris,
I sold law enforcement and fire, ems equipment for 16 years. Check out the Streamlight Microstream. Also maglight.
also pelican flashligts. All 3 companys make great lights.

If you want something close to your old light I'd suggest getting an incandescent Surefire 6P or C2 from CPF Market place, then getting a Malkoff M61L drop-in (175lumens, 5hours runtime) for it, then pick up a V70 holster.
