New Flashlights

Someone just did a review on here on the 4sevens Quark. They have a model that runs on one AA or one CR123A. Of course performance is greater with the CR123A, but I like lights that run on the AA's (I have several of the Pentagonlight Molle lights like you mentioned and love them).

Knife works has them. I only provide this link because you can compare so many models along with the Fenix lights. I have a Fenix and like it very much, but a Quark may be my next light. http://www.knifeworks.com/fenixflashlights-3.aspx Of course, you can just go to the 4seven's site too.

do you have a link on that passaround of the quark?

I have one from county comm and like it, I keep it in my PSK, I also have a pentgon light for about a year or so and that is a tuff little light(need a second one)...I have a few lights I have flipped due to the CR123 batteries,I do not care for any light no matter the brand even if it was Free I would not accept it if it takes CR123 batteries.

CR123 batteries are insanely expensive. I called the local radio shack and they wanted $20.00 for 2... thats right 2 f*****g batteries... it seems the surefire batteries are much cheaper but i dont have time to wait. going on vacation in 2 days and i need the batteries now practically

You guys need to buy CR123as online. They are available for about $1.50 apiece when you buy 20 at a time, and cheaper if you buy more. They are still more expensive than alkalines, but they really do provide the best performance you can get out of a cell and IMO are definitely worth it.

Okay, but you're missing out on a lot of good lights...:p

matter of opinion brother, I had several surefire's ...not impressed with lamp & or battery life. Lot of light for little life ...no thanks.... I have a pelican M3 LED that is about to go away as well same reason, I have several streamlight's that take AA,AAA,C's & D's led and non LED and they'll do fine for me... :D

Check out Olight T10. I just bought 3 off these and they are brighter with alot more throw than my Gladius Night-Ops. Very small, uses 1 cr123 battery with a claimed 190 lumens. It is easily twice as bright as the Gladius.

I have several Surefires and I have to agree, they suck the life out of a battery pretty quick! I also have a Fenix P3D which is just a little bigger than the 123 battery itself and it puts out an insane amount of light. It has three levels from very low to wow. The battery lasts forever with this light. There are other LED lights that are similar in terms of output and battery usage. If you look at Malkoff dropins for Surefires you find a whole new life for them as well. Incans are going the way of the dinosaur.

+1 on the Streamlight Microstream....~$18...runs forever on a AAA Energizer Lithium... momentary/clicky 'tactical' tail switch. My EDC light.

i have been diggin those little Fenix O1's. for 15 bucks and 1 AAA battery and 10 lumens its pretty kick butt imo.. goes in the pocket and you dont know its there. hell i had to tie some orange paracord to the little ring incase i drop it.. dropped it once and took forever to find.. not anymoe!

Of all the flashlights and headlamps we have around the house, here are the 4 that get used the most:

Petzl e+lite LED headlamp - http://www.petzl.com/en/outdoor/headlamps/signal-and-elite/elite : This has become my #1 used light for everything from changing the thermostat settings in the middle of the night to camping. It is small and will stow just about anywhere. It takes 2 CR2032 coin cell batteries which are easy to find, and will store up to 10 years. Petzl says it'll shine for 40 hours on the two coin cells. I find the 2 levels of white light brightness to be more than adequate for task lighting and night hiking. I have even hiked at night using just the one red LED, and it worked well for me. I see some places online are selling this light for around $21. I might just get another one. It is hands-down the smallest and most versatile light I have.

Streamlight Twin-Task 2 cell lithium - http://www.streamlight.com/product/product.aspx?pid=49: This flashlight usually resides at our bedside, and serves as a backup/brighter option to the e+lite when traveling. I haven't used the xenon bulb too much, but it is nice to know I have that sort of lighting intensity on tap. Not that it's super bright or anything, but it is plenty bright enough. The LEDs are pretty easy on the batteries, too.

Honorable mentions:

Gerber Infinity Ultra task light - Handy size, easy on batteries, solid and reliable backup
PALight Survival - 'Always on' glow is nice, 9V battery lasts more than a year
Pelican 4AA Stealthlight - very durable, my mainstay for years, good 'around-the-house' light
