New Folder Design

Rick
There are abunch of great makers on here that are more than willing to help,No question is to samll:)
These forums have really brought my work around,I hang out mostly in shop talk, and have learned from makers who hve been there before and can teach me from there mistakes. We are lucky to have such makers
to help us out;)

I second that. Even the most trivial questions I ask have been answered. I also spend a lot of time with the "search" feature to get a lot of archived information.

I too draw on grid paper, but I start on regular notebook paper first. I usually don't have a "set" design in my head, usually just a rough idea and I'll use the notebook paper to work out the design, then transfer it to grid paper when I'm happy with what I've created. Been doing this a lot lately, as I'm waiting to order a Coote and some more metal. And I took apart my old grinder so I wouldn't be tempted to waste anymore steel on it. :D

That's a great looking folder design Rick! Looks like it would be a lot of fun to build. I'm picturing a framelock with overlays rather than doing it liner lock style.

Thanks,Peter.:)Your video has been a great resource for me!I've viewed it start to finish at least half of dozen times,Very educational visual. Thanks again,Peter.I'd like to make a folder soon,But making some fixed blade designs would be my first choice.

Overlays are fun to design,I real like your overlay designs. You and Tom Anderson have a good sense of style for overlay designs. The way Tom slits the overlay is real slick!Real classy looking!

Thanks for the kind words Rick! :) That video was a blast to make. Wish I had enough material to do another but I'm not quite there yet. It's amazing how far you can go in just a year....;)

I would try the folder if I were you. Just plunge right on in. You'll learn a lot just by doing. Feel free to email me with questions and I'll be glad to try to answer them.

Rick,
The knife design looks great. I think you should leave it as-is, and make it with the materials you like. But I think it is calling for some green canvas micarta. I have liked all of your designs that I've seen. I guess those are just the ones with Eric and with Jeff Hall. But they are all sweet. Don't change a thing.

Thanks Poboy.I've spent the better part of last year drawing designs,About 60 at last count. Now it's time to make a few!My grinder is a little weak on power,I'd like to invest in maybe a Hardcore(Jeff Hall loves his!)Or a KMG.I plan on checking out some grinders at Blade,I'm anxious to get started!Hopefully I can sell some of my karambits(Jeff Hall collaboration)And get a real grinder!I've got it bad!Just have to get some decent equipment!
